The Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Ali Pate, and the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, Mele Kyari on Wednesday, visited Borno State to offer condolences to the government and people affected by the recent flood incident.
The flood, caused by the overflow of the Alau Dam, resulted in significant property damage and displaced numerous families.
During their visit to Governor Prof. Babagana Zulum, Prof. Pate expressed sadness over the incident and pledged the ministry’s support to alleviate the victims’ suffering.
He commended the governor’s handling of the crisis and called on the private sector and civil society organizations to rally around the governor to ensure the crisis was addressed.
“We felt compelled to visit and sympathize with you on this major crisis. We’ve seen the devastating impact on social media and through reports from our agencies working with your team. We’ll mobilize support and understand how to assist in the response efforts,” he said.
Responding , Governor Zulum expressed gratitude to the minister and the NNPCL boss for the visit and the support to the state.
“We’ve never seen a disaster of this magnitude in Borno State’s history. While we can’t question God, we appreciate your sympathy and assistance during this challenging time,” he said.
