Over the years, British actor Henry Cavill has taken on some truly iconic roles. From Superman to Geralt of Rivia, Cavill has proven his dedication to beloved franchises and intricate stories. However, there is one franchise of Cavill’s that doesn’t get nearly enough attention. Luckily, though, its upcoming sequel will hopefully bring Cavill and the overarching story into a brand-new light.

Arguably, 2013’s Man of Steel was the movie that truly brought Henry Cavill into the limelight. Although he had made a name for himself with projects like The Tudors, Man of Steel was Cavill’s very first big franchise. Over the course of several movies, Cavill played the legendary superhero. In fact, Cavill held onto the role for a decade. For all intents and purposes, Cavill was audiences’ Superman for a very long time. Thus, finding a role that compares to Superman is a bit difficult. Yet, there is one role in Cavill’s filmography that may stand a chance.

One franchise that has a chance of catching up to Henry Cavill’s Superman is Enola Holmes. First released in 2020, the franchise follows Enola, a young woman who is the forgotten little sister of Sherlock and Mycroft Holmes. However, Enola is just as intelligent and talented as her brothers, and uses her skills to track down her missing mother. Since then, the Enola Holmes movies have followed Enola through her many adventures solving mysteries in Victorian Era London. The franchise is star-studded, with Enola Holmes’ cast including Millie Bobby Brown, Helena Bonham Carter, Sam Claflin, Louis Partridge, and Henry Cavill.

In Enola Holmes and Enola Holmes 2, Henry Cavill plays Sherlock Holmes. Though Sherlock is far from being the main character of the franchise, he plays an important role as Enola’s caring yet overprotective brother. He provides his knowledge and skills when Enola needs them, and provides a good buffer between Enola and Mycroft, who is snobby and rude. Overall, Cavill’s Sherlock is a lovable and impressive character. Cavill definitely does justice to the iconic detective, and in the meantime, Enola Holmes gives Cavill yet another legendary role to add to his resume.

Henry Cavill Playing Sherlock Three Times Would Match His Superman Role

Superman Versus Sherlock Holmes

Netflix is currently developing Enola Holmes 3, and if Cavill reprises his role as Sherlock, then he would have as many notable appearances in the Enola Holmes franchise as he does in Superman. Notably, Cavill played Superman five times over the course of his career, but only three of them were tried and true roles. Cavill played Clark Kent in Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Zack Snyder’s Justice League. In Black Adam and The Flash, Cavill only made very brief cameos. In this way, Enola Holmes could match Superman, at least in quantity.

Of course, Sherlock Holmes and Clark Kent are very different characters in a lot of ways. Though both men are powerful in their own right, they play different parts in their franchises. Superman is the leader of his franchise, even when he is part of an ensemble cast. Meanwhile, Sherlock is more of a supporting character, at least in the Enola Holmes universe. In this way, Superman will likely always be a major part of Henry Cavill’s career. However, it is great that Enola Holmes will get more movies, proving that it deserves plenty of attention as well.

How Henry Cavill’s Sherlock Compares To Other Versions Of The Character

Cavill’s Sherlock Is Neat & Tidy

In many ways, Henry Cavill’s Sherlock Holmes is quite different from other actors who have played Sherlock. Although Sherlock is a genius and an amazing detective, previous depictions of him have often been chaotic or messy. Robert Downey Jr.’s Sherlock is quite eccentric and strange, despite his affinity for small details. Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sherlock is similar. As much as he is a crime solver, he also breaks a lot of rules to get where he wants. Cavill’s Sherlock is not like this. Instead, Cavill portrays Sherlock as a fairly straight-laced character who is on top of his work.

Furthermore, Cavill’s Sherlock is much more heartwarming. Where Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sherlock has a generally antisocial attitude, Cavill’s Sherlock is capable of showing his love and affection for his sister. This makes him a lot more likable, and easier to root for. Yet, Cavill doesn’t lose the essence of Sherlock, either. He is smooth, intelligent, and an invaluable individual when it comes to solving crimes. Overall, Henry Cavill’s Sherlock Holmes is a great addition to Enola Holmes, and hopefully, he will continue with the role.
