Hollyoaks spoilers follow for Thursday’s (April 25) episode that is now available to view on Channel 4 streaming. The episode in question will air on E4 on Friday April 26 at 7pm.
Lucas Hay (Oscar Curtis) suggested that he and Carter Shepherd (David Ames) make the upcoming Pride event ‘one to remember’, with an incredibly sinister plan in mind.
The teen, as viewers know, has been subjected to cruel conversion therapy at the hands of Carter and twisted church leader Declan Hawthorne (Alan Turkington) after he realised he was gay, having developed feelings for classmate Dillon Ray (Nathaniel Dass).
Under the guise of the Student Behavioural Unit, Carter has poisoned Lucas’ mind, so much so that he’s started spouting vile homophobic hate, which was overheard by John Paul McQueen (James Sutton) earlier this week.
In a bid to make things right, Lucas called over to see John Paul at the McQueen residence, apologising for his homophobia.
John Paul knew there was more going on than meets the eye, reminding Lucas that he’s been around gay people his entire life therefore he wouldn’t have the capacity to be so homophobic – that is, unless someone was making him say such things!
Lucas was quick to try and dispel such a notion but he did open up, claiming that the catalyst for his behaviour was the fact that Dillon had told him how he felt about him.
John Paul, seeing his younger self in Lucas, asked the teen what exactly it is that drew him to Dillon in the first place.
Lucas struggled to hide his smile as he described all the wonderful things he liked about Dillon, with John Paul starting to put two and two together – realising that Lucas also has feelings for Dillon.
The former deputy head reflected on his first love with Craig Dean (Guy Burnet), which left Lucas with food for thought as he resolved to make things right with Dillon following their falling out.
In fact, the teen decided to help out with Pride prep, which led to John Paul describing in detail the plans for the upcoming event. A mention of Carter left John Paul suspicious and, knowing what the headmaster is capable of, he wasted little time in confronting him, insinuating that he knows what he’s up to with Lucas.
Enraged, Carter arranged a meeting with Lucas, having a go at him for speaking to John Paul. Lucas, however, made it quite clear that he was playing John Paul, revealing that he managed to obtain information on the ins and outs of Pride, suggesting that they sabotage the event.
Even Carter looked taken aback by Lucas suggestion, despite the fact that it’s his fault for manipulating and gaslighting the teen in the first place.
Next week sees the head teacher decide to change tactics, plotting to kidnap Lucas and take him to America. But will he succeed?
