Hollyoaks spoilers follow for Thursday’s (July 18) episode that is now available to view on Channel 4 streaming. The episode in question will air on E4 on Friday July 19 at 7pm.
Hollyoaks has revisited one of its most iconic moments ever, with a cheeky scene on Thursday seeing Sienna Blake (Anna Passey) ask Maxine Minniver (Nikki Sanderson) the mother of all questions.
You know where I’m going with this, right?
‘How’s Trish?’, enquired the former high school teacher, with stars Anna and Nikki’s perfectly-pitched performances making it deliciously camp.
The question, now an iconic catchphrase among TV fans, was first uttered by Love Island star Curtis Pritchard back in 2021 when he and brother AJ – known for his three years as a pro Strictly Come Dancing – did a guest stint in the Channel 4 soap.
The real-life siblings, who are both professional dancers, portrayed devilish dancing duo Marco and Jacob.
With very little to say and a tendency to spontaneously dance, the fictional duo were thought to be nice guys, but it soon came to light that they were plotting dance teacher Trish Minniver’s (Denise Welch) downfall.
AJ and Curtis’ work on the show became a social media sensation, with one scene in particular going viral on platforms including X and TikTok. The moment in question saw Marco and Jacob meet up for the first time to discuss their secret masterplan.
‘How’s Trish?’ asked Jacob, with Curtis’ rapid delivery of the dialogue and incredibly swift head movement being replicated by many fans online.
Trish, as viewers will recall, was unaware that Marco was conspiring with Jacob to destroy her, with the brothers intent on getting their hands on her ‘little black book’ – which was actually purple.
What a time to be alive.
Though re-created by Zara Morgan star Kelly Condron, to my knowledge no character has since dared utter ‘How’s Trish?’ – until now, with Sienna quizzing Maxine on her mum’s wellbeing after she was led to believe that her own estranged grandma Martha (Sherrie Hewson) is in a care home with dementia.
Maxine was quick to quell any worries we might have about Trish, confirming that her mum will be ‘high-kicking’ for the foreseeable.
After three years of wondering how are Trish is doing, we can now rest easy.
AJ and Curtis, meanwhile, have since addressed the criticism surrounding their Hollyoaks stint and their acting.
‘‘Our acting on that was GCSE grade quality,’ said Curtis on Straight To The Comments! podcast. ‘We were ultimately thrown into the deep end, that bad.’
The Love Island star was quick to add that his and AJ’ stint on Hollyoaks brought a lot of publicity for Hollyoaks.
‘The show said it got more press for Hollyoaks than they’ve ever had before,’ he concluded. ‘We were like, ‘Well, thank you. You can have us back on when you want. You haven’t killed us off’
Hollyoaks streams weeknights at 7:30pm on Channel 4’s streaming platform, or catch episodes on TV at 7pm on E4.
