Hollyoaks actor Ross Adams has thanked fans for their support as he left the Channel 4 soap after almost a decade.
As fans of the long-running serial know, Ross’s character Scott Drinkwell departed the village at the beginning of this week in a short exit storyline that saw him send a video message from his new home in Spain.
He was planning to leaving the area for a new life with Freya Calder (Ellie Henry), but soon vanished into thin air with best friend Maxine Minniver (Nikki Sanderson) believing him to have been murdered by mysterious Jeremy Blake (Jeremy Sheffield).
Later, we learnt that he’d got a last minute flight and called to tell Freya that she could join him on a later flight.
The rushed exit received somewhat of a backlash from fans who expected him to have a more substantial final plot.
In response, Ross replied: ‘It wasn’t the exit I wanted for him but I’m so grateful to have played him’, pairing it with a heart broken emoji.
Following an outpouring of love, he’s followed it up with an Instagram story thanking viewers for their support.
‘As I sit here with fluffy hair drinking my morning coffee, I am so completely overwhelmed with the outpouring of love I’ve had since Scott’s exit’ he wrote.
‘You’re all very lovely. Thank you.’
In March he exclusively announced his departure in an interview with Metro.co.uk, telling our Soaps and Drama Editor Duncan Lindsay: ‘I want him to be OK and happy, and in an ideal world I would love if Jane McDonald could turn up in the village and offer him his dream job of working as her PA on a cruise.’
He continued: ‘I highly doubt Jane would be available for my exit but I just want him to be happy. When you play a character for so long, they become a part of you and you become a part of them.

‘When I say goodbye to the show, it’ll be like I’ve lost a bit of myself, which will be weird.’
Whilst Scott hasn’t landed himself a new life alongside Jane McDonald on a cruise, Ross is currently filming for seaworthy Channel 5 drama The Good Ship Murder alongside fellow soapstars Catherine Tyldesley and Claire Sweeney.
