Horror master Mike Flanagan just declared Interview with the Vampire one of the very best shows on television.” Based on Anne Rice’s 1976 novel of the same name, which was previously adapted into the 1994 film starring Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, the AMC series follows a vampire as he recounts his life, including his tumultuous relationship with a fellow vampire, to a journalist. Jacob Anderson leads Interview with the Vampire‘s cast alongside Sam Reid, Eric Bogosian, Delainey Hayles, Assad Zaman, and Ben Daniels.

As seen above, Flanagan’s full post reads, “INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE on @AMC_TV just perfectly stuck the landing on an absolutely exceptional second season. Damn. One of the very best shows on TV. Huge congrats to the entire cast and crew. WOW.”

After a user suggested that he write or direct an episode of Interview with the Vampire, Flanagan said that wouldn’t be possible since he’s “exclusive to Amazon for TV work.” However, he will be “cheering for” its creator and showrunner, Rolin Jones.

How Has AMC’s Interview With The Vampire Been Received?

Mike Flanagan Isn’t The Only Praising The Series

Flanagan is far from the only one praising AMC’s Interview with the Vampire, which has received overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics across its first two seasons, specifically for its writing, costume design, soundtrack, production design, performances, and the cast’s chemistry. Premiered in 2022, reviews praised season 1 for its whimsical tone and grand scope that effectively captured Rice’s gothic masterpiece, dispelling any doubts about the story’s potential for a successful revival. Season 1 holds a near-perfect 98% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Premiered in May 2024, Interview with the Vampire season 2 reviews praised the show for sticking to its strength with fresh settings and vibrant character portrayals, resulting in another 98% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Flanagan especially praised the season 2 finale, which just aired on June 30, for “perfectly sticking the landing on an absolutely exceptional second season.” AMC’s adaptation has also been praised for embracing the LGBTQ+ aspects of Rice’s novel, which were only hinted at in the 1994 film, and also exploring themes such as race and abuse.
