Dearest reader, I am thrilled to inform you that it’s time to dust off your diamonds and practice your dance moves, because Bridgerton is back.
The hit Netflix show, inspired by Julia Quinn’s novels, has just dropped new episodes on the streaming platform, with this season focusing on the highly anticipated connection between Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin (Luke Newton).
While many of us won’t be able to think of much else but the sizzling love story, for others their eyes will be drawn to the dazzling and elegant interiors of the homes of the Ton.
And who could blame them? The Regency era decor on the show is incredibly opulent and romantic – think chandeliers, ornate mirrors, dark wood, long flowing curtains, plenty of floral and damask rugs, and lots of satin and velvet fabrics.
If you’ve been left dreaming of living in the wisteria-covered Bridgerton abode, then it might be time to give your own home a makeover – and it couldn’t be easier to do thanks to companies such as Ruggable and Etsy. It doesn’t have to cost you a fortune, either.
The former recently launched an entire Bridgerton collection of rugs, and any one of them added into your living room or bedroom will instantly give the place a classy, feminine Regency feel.
The rugs come in various shapes and sizes, with different coloured patterns. There’s the Fit For A Queen Soft Rose Rug, or the Royal Garden Multicolour Rug, though those looking for something darker might prefer the Night of Enchantment Royal Plum Rug. Prices for each start from £119 for a 60×90 area rug, and rise to £989 for 305×425 rug.
If you’re looking for something simpler than a rug, then online marketplace Etsy might be the place to find tea sets (they love a cup of tea in Bridgerton), gilded mirrors and photo frames at affordable prices.
The company claims they’ve recently seen a whopping 114% increase in searches on their site for Regency items, and they expect this item to continue to grow following the third season’s release.
The ‘Regencycore’ vibe is one that aligns perfectly with their top spring/summer trend for 2024 of ‘rom-com interiors’, where people are channelling their main character energy to create a nostalgic space, which feels ‘alive’ yet ‘lived-in’.
Much like the Regency era, this new trend involves lots of colourful rugs, vintage furniture, and cosy homeware items.
Etsy trend expert, Dayna Isom Johnson, told Metro.co.uk: ‘In an increasingly technology-filled world, shoppers are regularly looking for ways to embrace aesthetics from times past whilst escaping reality, and “Regencycore” is the perfect form of escapism.
‘The trend is a fun way to add some regal glamour to your decor. While shoppers might not be trading their PJs for ball gowns quite yet, many are turning to items like candelabras, corseted blouses, and tea sets that add a touch of regality to everyday life.
‘From ornate picture frames to regal art work and rich soft furnishings there are so many simple ways to welcome the aesthetic into your space.’
Another easy way to add a touch of Bridgerton glamour to your home is through a splash of paint.
Lick recently put together a guide for Bridgerton colour palettes, which features several delicate pastel blue shades inspired by the Bridgerton’s drawing room, which are intended to create a sense of calm.
If it’s the Featherington’s residence that you like the best, then you’ll want to pick up a pot of green, pink, or orange paint, but for a more powerful space, that mirrors Queen Charlotte’s palace, then it’s red and yellow shades you should opt for.
Paint samples are available on the Lick website for £2, with bigger tins starting from £35.
Those looking for a real bargain can also jump on the Bridgerton interiors trend by scouring local charity shops and heading to car boot sales. Here you’ll be able to find vintage treasures for a fraction of the price.
Look out for chandeliers, candelabras, picture frames, mirrors, tea sets, and even bigger pieces of dark wooden furniture to decorate with.
Alternatively, treating yourself to a colourful bunch of flowers from the supermarket, or your local florist will instantly spruce up any room in your house. You can see on the show how pink and purple blooms really make all the difference to a room, especially when you’re hosting guests.
And don’t forget the outside of your house either. You can make a start right now on creating a romantic wisteria-covered property by heading out and buying the flowering plant for as little as £14.99 from B&Q.
