Players will have another chance to take on this beastly Pokemon during the Primal Groudon Raid Day, which will take place on Saturday, March 23. The event will run from 12 PM – 5 PM local time and players will have many chances to catch a Primal version of the Continental Pokemon.
Best Counters For Primal Groudon
While Groudon is a sole Ground-type Pokemon, Primal Groudon gains a Fire-typing as well. The addition of a new type may sound daunting, but this is actually great for trainers hoping to take down this colossal Pokemon. Both Fire and Ground-types are weak to Water-type moves. With this double weakness, players will do a whopping 256% damage using Water-type moves. Ground-type moves also do a good deal of damage against the Primal Pokemon, so players should be sure to bring along Pokemon with those typings at hand.
A list of Pokemon that will do well in battle against Primal Groudon can be found below. There are two separate tables, one consisting of Mega Evolved Pokemon and another consisting of regular Pokemon. Since players can only have one Mega Evolution active at a time, the list of Mega Pokemon is drastically shorter. It is not essential to have a Mega Evolution present when taking on Primal Groudon, but this Pokemon will not be easy to defeat so players should be sure to team up with other trainers to take it down, especially if they aren’t able to Mega Evolve.

Can Primal Groudon Be Shiny?
Groudon is one of the coolest shiny Pokemon, a fact that remains true for its Primal version. The shiny version of Primal Groudon will be available during the Raid Day, and players will have an increased chance to catch this beast as well! When Primal Groudon is defeated, players will have an encounter with Groudon’s base form, so they should keep an eye out for its distinct yellowish green color scheme.
A shiny legendary Pokemon has a 100% catch rate, so if players encounter this monster, they should use a Pinap Berry to increase the number of Candy they recieve from the catch.
How To Catch A Perfect IV Primal Groudon
If players are hoping for a 100% IV Pokemon, there are two specific CPs they should keep an eye out for. If they Raid players are battling is weather-boosted, a perfect IV Groudon will have a 2939 CP. If there is no weather-boost present, the CP players will want to keep an eye out for is 2351 CP.
A perfect IV Groudon will have a 2351 CP, and a perfect weather-boosted Groudon will have a 2939 CP.
