How To Use Synergy Attacks

Synergy Attacks are a new option that will be seen at the bottom of the commands menu in combat. As a Synergy attack utilizes two characters, either character can initiate the attack as long as the other is able to act. Using these Synergy Attacks does not require ATB but instead will require the character to use other abilities and spells that utilize ATB earlier in the fight.

Below each character’s ATB gauge will be multiple small gray bars; they are filled in blue as that character uses ATB for an action. These bars represent utilized ATB, which is then stored and can be used for Synergy Attacks. Both characters in the Synergy Attack will need the right number of bars filled before the Synergy Attack can be used, using up those additional ATB bars instead of the main one.

Synergy Abilities also buff those involved in the attack for a time after being used. The Yellow Icon strengthens Limit Break abilities and their damage. The Purple Icon gives unlimited MP for all spells for a time. and the Orange Icon keeps enemies staggered for longer.

How To Use Synergy Skills

Cloud Blocking About To Use A Synergy Skill

Synergy Skills are different than abilities, and can be used more like a basic attack with another party member. By holding down the block button, R1, the Command Menu will change to display multiple Synergy Skills that can be used with the other two active party members. While these attacks won’t do a ton more damage than usual basic attacks, they will build up ATB quickly between both party members. Using Synergy Skills for the first time with a character will also earn Relationship points with that character.

How To Unlock Synergy Attacks

A Synergy Attack Upgrade In Cloud's Folio

Synergy Attacks are unlocked through various characters’ Folios. Despite two characters being used in these attacks, only one of them will have the skill needed to be unlocked in their Folio. After a Synergy Attack has been unlocked, the characters involved will need to be in the active party, and the Synergy Attack will be present in the commands. There are many Synergy Attacks in the game for each combo of characters, giving players access to these powerful attacks with any team.

Players can make different party compositions by reordering their party to use different Synergy Attacks. By increasing the Party’s Level, players can get access to different synergy attacks.
