Human remains found in woodland are those of a 56-year-old dad whose disappearance six months ago launched a murder investigation.
Paul Taylor, from Annan in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland, had not been seen since October 17 last year.
His Vauxhall Corsa was seen driving south to Carlisle that evening before being found two days later, abandoned in northern Cumbria.
Police launched a murder investigation a month later.
Human remains were found earlier this month west of Carlisle, in the Finglandrigg Wood area, off the B5307.
Police have now confirmed they belong to Mr Taylor, whose family have been informed.
The force said there would be a police presence at the scene for ‘some time’ while the investigation continues.
People are asked to avoid the area.
Two teenagers have been charged in connection with the case.
In February, a 19-year-old man appeared in court charged with murder.
A second 19-year-old man was later charged with assisting an offender.
