I Can’t Believe The DCU Just Showed Peacemaker’s Death 8 Months Before His Season 2 Return & The Implications Are Massively Important

I’m thoroughly enjoying Creature Commandos
, but episode 4 has shaken up things way beyond the sphere of the show with references to the death of major characters like Peacemaker. Creature Commandos is the first official release from the DCU, but as an animated series that is exclusively streaming on Max, and not available to view for some audiences around the world, I didn’t think the show would go all that hard. Obviously, I expected Gunn’s usual sense of humor, and a lot of music, action, and comedy, but episode 4 proves the show is rocking the entire DCU.

While the episode largely digs deeper into Weasel’s origin story, and sees Task Force M start to split up and work on separate projects, there is a pivotal scene that sets events in motion for the rest of the season, and potentially the entire of the DCU. Especially for characters like Peacemaker, who are supposed to appear in the upcoming season 2 in late 2025.

Creature Commandos Episode 4 Just Showed Peacemaker’s Death Before He Returns In Season 2

Peacemaker’s Future Was Supposed To Be A Sure Thing

In Creature Commandos episode 4, Circe has been captured by the team, and is now being held prisoner by Amanada Waller. Waller attempts to get information from Circe, but she is not expecting the incredible revelation that comes. Since Circe has the power to see into the future, she tells Waller and the others that her attack on Princess Ilana was actually for the greater good, because something terrible is brewing, and Ilana will be at the center of it all.

How do you feel about Weasel’s twist in Creature Commandos?

There has been something that drew me to want to protect Weasel from the first time I saw him, but I was not sure what it was. He might be lanky and awkward, and seem vicious, but I knew there was good in him. So when the latest episode of Creature Commandos revealed that he never killed those children. That, in fact, he had to watch them die, I was devastated for him, and could totally understand how this trauma would stay with him. I love that James Gunn gave him this twist, because he really reminds me of just a big, lovable, dog.

Circe then offers to show Waller the vision, and Waller steps into the cell with the villainous Themysciran. Then, the vision reveals the death of the Justice League, world domination by Princess Ilana, and significantly, Peacemaker’s dead body lying on a hill next to the Justice League. But if that is the future, what does that mean for Peacemaker season 2? Despite being an animated show with unknown characters, Creature Commandos has asserted itself as a pivotal part of the DCU.

The DC Universe Has Set The Stakes Massively High For Its First Release

The Ramifications Could Be Widespread In The DCU

While Task Force M are a bunch of misfits and monsters, with none of them having any hero experience, the team is now responsible for preventing catastrophe that could lead to the end of the DCU before it even begins. Yes, it is likely to be resolved in the series, because Peacemaker season 2 is coming, and movies like Superman are also due to release in 2025, but that doesn’t reduce the impact of this vision. And with the stakes already so high, where will the other projects go?

Creature Commandos did not need to push the limits for a franchise that was just starting out, but it does feel like a sign that James Gunn has big plans for the DCU. Of course, the fact that it is an animated series, and they can simply add in the characters without needing the actors to come and voice the roles makes it an easier task, and one that is going to be a lot cheaper than casting all the live-action actors for a brief cameo in a live-action project, but it feels big. And even when they inevitably resolve this plot in the show, it will still have a lasting effect on the DCU.

Peacemaker Season 2 Looks Even More Interesting Following The DCU’s Death Tease

Peacemaker Just Had The Stakes Raised

The thing is, heroes tend to seem infallible. They appear to be unstoppable and powerful in a way that makes the audience feel like nothing can truly stop them. While most superhero movies try to put the heroes into tough spots, it’s almost always guaranteed that no matter how tough things get, they will come out the other side. But, with Creature Commandos revealing that a character like Princess Ilana, who has no powers, but a kingdom and some serious ambition, could take down the most elite and powerful heroes known to mankind, it raises the bar for other DCU entries too.

And for Peacemaker, he isn’t actually super. He’s extremely skilled, and he has worked hard to put his body into peak physical condition, but he isn’t going to be as challenging to take down as Superman. And knowing that the character has the capacity to be killed, and his future is not guaranteed, can really make Peacemaker season 2 that much more intense and powerful. But, depending on how Creature Commandos wraps up this storyline in the next 3 episodes could redefine everything we though we knew about the DCU.
