I Know The Best Way To Kick Off The MCUs Mutant Saga After Deadpool & Wolverine

Deadpool & Wolverine has become one of the most successful projects in the history of the MCU, which makes me think one movie would be perfect to kick-start the rumored Mutant Saga. Marvel Studios has come under some heavy fire throughout the Multiverse Saga, but I’m one of many who are very excited for the future of the MCU, as mutants and the X-Men are on the way. Deadpool & Wolverine made huge strides in introducing some of these wild characters to the MCU proper.

Only a handful of mutants have been introduced to the MCU’s main continuity so far, so I loved seeing the likes of Deadpool, Wolverine, Gambit, Colossus and many more grace the big screen in Deadpool & Wolverine. Marvel Studios could very easily bid farewell to many of these characters after Deadpool & Wolverine, as they’re expected to be reimagined in the MCU’s main timeline. However, I’d love to see these heroes return, and I reckon they could form a new superhero team, leading the charge into the MCU’s Mutant Saga.

Deadpool & Wolverine’s Success Makes Sequels Inevitable

Deadpool & Wolverine Is The Highest-Grossing R-Rated Movie Of All Time

Deadpool & Wolverine very quickly became one of the most successful installments in the MCU, the first movie since 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home to cross the $1 billion mark at the global box office, and the new highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time. This incredible success has me thinking that, even though none have been officially announced, sequels to Deadpool & Wolverine are inevitable. Whether this teams Deadpool up with new heroes, is Deadpool & Wolverine 2, or is a new solo project for Ryan Reynolds is another question.

Neither Ryan Reynolds nor Hugh Jackman have been confirmed to be returning for a sequel to Deadpool & Wolverine, though there is a huge amount of speculation that the future is looking bright for both actors. I’m not convinced that Jackman should return as Wolverine, but I would love to see Reynolds reprise his role and continue to play Deadpool for years to come. I think I might have worked out the perfect way for this to happen, and it involves reviving some of 20th Century Fox’s canceled movie plans for the Merc with a Mouth.

Deadpool 4 Should Revive Fox’s Canceled X-Force Movie Plans

An X-Force Movie Was Planned After Deadpool 2

Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool and Deadpool 2 are considered two of the strongest projects in 20th Century Fox’s X-Men franchise, so it made sense that the studio was planning to expand this corner of the universe. Disney’s acquisition of Fox canceled these plans, which included plans for a movie focused on X-Force. 2018’s Deadpool 2 set up this team, with Deadpool as the leader, and I think reviving these plans would be an excellent way of bringing the Merc with a Mouth back to the MCU.

Deadpool 2’s version of X-Force included the likes of Domino, Bedlam, Shatterstar and more, and while most of them hilariously lost their lives, the movie’s post-credits sequence seemed to reverse this travesty. Deadpool & Wolverine revealed that at least Shatterstar had been saved, but I think a very different version of the X-Force team may have also been teased. X-Force would have become the Deadpool franchise’s version of the Avengers, and this could still be the case in the MCU, should the team headline the Mutant Saga.

MCU’s X-Force Movie Already Has The Perfect Cast After Deadpool & Wolverine

Deadpool Reunited With His Found Family Of Powerful Mutants In Deadpool & Wolverine

While I loved the line-up for Deadpool 2’s X-Force team, I think Deadpool & Wolverine has set up an even more formidable iteration. This roster could still be led by Deadpool, and he may be joined by the heroes who comprise his found family, as featured at the end of Deadpool & Wolverine. Most notably, this would create the opportunity for Hugh Jackman’s “Worst Wolverine” variant to return, as well as Dafne Keen’s Laura, a.k.a. X-23 – I desperately want to see more of Keen after Logan and Deadpool & Wolverine.

Deadpool, Wolverine and X-23 could be joined by the heroes who come from Earth-10005. This could include current X-Men members Colossus, Negasonic Teenage Warhead and Yukio, while former X-Force member Shatterstar could also be included. I would love a possible X-Force team to also include Cable and Domino, as I really felt their absence in Deadpool & Wolverine. After Deadpool & Wolverine’s deleted scene, it’s possible the X-Force team could also bring Channing Tatum’s Gambit back to the MCU, which would make me incredibly happy.

Deadpool’s X-Force Would Be A Great Way To Start The Mutant Saga

The Mutant Saga Has Been Teased For The MCU’s Future

Marvel Studios has teased the start of the Mutant Saga after the Multiverse Saga comes to an end with 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars. Marvel boss Kevin Feige most recently teased that the Mutant Saga would begin with Deadpool & Wolverine, and I reckon the movie might have done this by setting up a new X-Force team. This group would be a great way for Marvel Studios to kick-start the Mutant Saga, especially since they have connections to the X-Men, but have never actually been given a live-action adaptation.

The Mutant Saga would be the third Saga in the MCU’s history, following the Infinity Saga, which spanned Phases 1, 2 and 3, and the Multiverse Saga, taking place over Phases 4, 5 and 6.

Featuring the X-Force, especially if comprised of Earth-10005’s heroes from Deadpool & Wolverine, at the start of the Mutant Saga could be a great way to bid farewell to Fox’s X-Men franchise once-and-for-all. I expected this to happen in Deadpool & Wolverine, and I was surprised when the universe survived Cassandra Nova’s attack. I still think Earth-10005 won’t be around much longer, but the X-Force can be used to bridge the gap between this reality and Earth-616, and bring the first mutant superhero team into the MCU proper.
