While the entirety of Infection Free Zone is about surviving, you need to make decisions and manage your crew and the resources they gather for you, which is the main reason why every playthrough could be different from the other one.
Infection Free Zone: How To Adapt Buildings Into Shelters
It’s about keeping people happy!
Similar to most strategy games, researching plays a major role in Infection Free Zone, as it allows you to build new stuff that helps you lean less on scavenging and gain the ability to produce what your people need at your base without sending your defenders on far scavenging adventures and risking the lives of your workers at the HQ.

How To Start Researching
While you begin to earn Research points for scavenging bookstores and academic centers, even if you spend those points on any of the research topics, you will realize that it makes no progress. That’s because doing research does require you to build aResearch Center first.
This is similar to building shelters. So, you need to open your Building Menu and select Research Center from the Others tab. Now, find an abandoned building and adapt it into a Research Center. Keep in mind that bigger buildings require more resources, but they will welcome more scientists as well, which means faster progression of research topics. Earlier in the game, you don’t really need a giant Research Center as you cannot afford to assign more than a few people to work as scientists, as you will have other needs in the community. So, it’s best to start small. Also, make sure to keep the Research Center close to your HQ or a watch tower to secure it against possible horde attacks.
In order to build a Research Center, you will need Metal and Wood. So, make sure you have enough of both resources before assigning workers to work on the adaptation process.
