Interview with the Vampire‘s Immortal Universe is expanding, getting a third series that has now been officially greenlit by AMC. The shared universe of TV shows is based on the work of Anne Rice, in particular her series The Vampire Chronicles and Mayfair Witches. So far, two TV series have been produced, one for each respective novel series, while a third was previously announced. Interview with the Vampire season 2 has already hinted at a convergence between the existing shows, indicating the Universe is about to tied more closely together soon.
Now, TheWrap has confirmed that the third series in the Immortal Universe, using the working title Anne Rice’sThe Talamasca, has been officially greenlit at AMC. Season 1 will consist of six episodes, scheduled for release in late 2025. The series is expected to be very different from Interview with the Vampire and Mayfair Witches, creating its own place within the shared universe while being connected to both shows. Check out what AMC Studios’ President of Entertainment Dan McDermott had to say about the show’s announcement below:
This is a story we’ve been developing and wanting to tell from the earliest moments of this franchise, focused on a fascinating and compelling secret society that has already appeared in both of our existing Anne Rice series, The Talamasca. As with all of these shows, we are thrilled to have such a high level of talent involved, represented here by John Lee Hancock and Mark Lafferty, and of course working closely with producer Mark Johnson as the creative head of our Anne Rice Immortal Universe.
What The Talamasca Series Means For The Immortal Universe’s Future
The Talamasca was originally teased by AMC in April 2023, where the then-untitled series was revealed to be focused on the mysterious organization. In the TV show universe, the group specializes in keeping track of people with supernatural abilities, including vampires and witches, while employing those with supernatural powers themselves. They featured heavily in Mayfair Witches, which Interview with the Vampire season 2 recently introduced them when an agent gave Daniel secretive documents.
The series’ presentation will no doubt be different from the previous shows, with producer Mark Johnson describing it as a “procedural spy thriller with the supernatural.” This description is a far cry from the pre-existing shows, both of which have their own unique presentations that help diversify the Universe. However, given the organization’s connections to both shows now, it’s possible either series will lead into the new show. The most likely candidate is Mayfair Witches season 2, set for release in 2025 prior to the new show.
The Talamasca will likely strengthen connections in the Immortal Universe by centralizing on the organization that’s appeared prominently in both series. Depending on how well it’s handled, the show could become just as critically praised as Interview with the Vampire, giving the franchise another praise-worthy entry with plenty of memorable characters and moments. With more likely to be revealed ahead of its premiere, the new show is a fitting expansion of the supernatural series.
AMC is also producing
Night Island
, a six-episode, short-form series inspired by Rice’s
The Queen of the Damned.
