A comedy series that ‘starred’ celebrities with the use of deep fake technology has been cancelled.

Premiering in 2022, Deep Fake Neighbour Wars transformed comedians and impressionists into famous faces including Adele, Kim Kardashian, Olivia Colman and Greta Thunberg.

But instead of living lives of luxuries in the public eye, they were everyday people living in suburbs across the United Kingdom engaged in petty neighbourhood disputes.

The six-part series was labelled ‘hilarious’ by countless fans, however also creeped many out with the use of the AI technology.

After being alerted about her appearance on the show, Nicki Minaj even weighed in after discovering her alter ego was working as a dog walker, married to Tom Holland and living in Cheshire.

‘HELP!!! What in the AI shapeshifting cloning conspiracy theory is this?!?!! I hope the whole internet get deleted!!!,’ she posted on social media.

Although the show was later rolled out internationally, ITV has now announced there are no plans for a second season.

In a statement to Metro.co.uk, an ITV spokesperson said: ‘There are no plans for new episodes of Deep Fake Neighbour Wars.’

‘The full series will remain on ITVX for everyone to enjoy and sits alongside the many other comedies on the streamer,’ they added.

At the time of the show’s released, ITV’s Head of Comedy Nana Hughes said that the show’s visuals ‘will fascinate, the world will titillate and the impressions will fixate’.

‘It is hugely exciting to bring AI technology to quite literally change the face of comedy on ITVX.’

However last year Idris Elba was also asked about how he felt being included in the show after Adele’s management got in contact to let him know both stars were set to feature.

‘I didn’t realise it was a whole TV show,’ he admitted.

‘And Adele’s team weren’t too pleased about it.

‘We weren’t too pleased about it because they didn’t ask our permission or anything and the next thing you know, it’s on TV,’ he added when speaking to The Hook.

He added the deep fakes were super ‘creepy’.

Despite the cancellations, ITV has other releases in the pipeline, including the return of Alan Carr’s Changing Ends, and the premiere of a police comedy called Piglets.

Deep Fake Neighbour Wars is streaming on ITVX.
