With the release of Challengers behind him and the expected festival debut of Queer later this year, Luca Guadagnino’s next movie is set to be After the Hunt, written by Nora Garrett. The Amazon MGM Studios production will begin filming this summer and is expected to premiere in theaters sometime in 2025.
Per Deadline, After the Hunt is “an intense dramatic thriller“ that follows a college professor whose dark past begins to resurface when one of her colleagues faces a loaded accusation made by a student. The premise certainly sounds intriguing, especially with the confirmed cast involved. Along with Roberts, After the Hunt will also star Andrew Garfield and Ayo Edebiri. After the Hunt would already be something to look forward to with Roberts leading the cast, but the A-lister’s involvement is a particularly good sign given how well her last thriller turned out.

The apocalyptic thriller was written and directed by Sam Esmail, based on Rumaan Alam’s 2020 novel of the same name about a family whose vacation is disrupted by a widespread cyberattack that descends into mass chaos. The cast of Leave the World Behind also includes Mahershala Ali, Ethan Hawke, Myha’la Herrold, and Kevin Bacon.
Given how successful Roberts’ most recent thriller was, After the Hunt is definitely in good hands with its leading lady.
Leave the World Behind was a major success for Netflix, raking in a whopping 121 million views, which amounted to 286.3 million hours watched. In fact, the apocalyptic thriller was Netflix’s most-viewed title in the second half of 2023, which is infinitely more impressive given that Leave the World Behind only had three weeks to generate these numbers, since it was released on December 8 and the cutoff was December 31.
