Justice Kekere-Ekun Sworn In As Substantive CJN

President Bola Tinubu has sworn in Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as Nigeria’s 23rd substantive Chief Justice.

The swearing-in ceremony followed her screening and confirmation by the Senate on September 25, 2024.

The event at the council chamber of the State House saw President Tinubu administer the oath of office to Justice Kekere-Ekun.

She succeeds Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, who bowed out on 22 August 2024, having attained the retirement age of 70 years, becoming Nigeria’s second female CJN after Justice Aloma Mukhtar.

Justice Mukhtar was part of the dignitaries present at the swearing-in ceremony alongside other past CJNs, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, Justice Walter Onnoghen and her predecessor, Justice Ariwoola.

It would be recalled that Tinubu swore her into office in an acting capacity on August 23, before her confirmation by the Senate on September 25.
