Talking about the fragrance to her fans, Mona said: ‘I am obsessed with the smell of candy. For me, anything sweet just really makes me feel happy and excited! With Vanilla 28 being our most popular juice, I wanted to create a version that was sweeter and more youthful.’
‘Vanilla Candy Rock Sugar 42 is like putting all of my favorite candies into a bottle, and every time I spray it gives me an instant sugar rush! You have bubble gum, rock sugar, jellybeans, vanilla cream and caramel… all of these deliciously sweet notes that take me back to my best memories as a kid – it’s like being in a candy store!’
‘And to make the fragrance even more tempting, we added this beautiful iridescent effect on the bottle to look like a wrapped hard candy. For all of my scent lovers with a super sweet tooth, this gem is for you!’
Our beauty editor was lucky enough to ask Mona a few burning questions about Vanilla Candy Rock Sugar 42, including the mood or occasion this perfume being perfect for? What makes this fragrance stand out in today’s crowded market?
And what are your first memories of fragrance?
‘Two notes that have always resonated with me since childhood are vanilla and jasmine. Vanilla in itself evokes the feeling of comfort and nostalgia – I think of birthday cakes and celebrating with my family and loved ones. As for jasmine, my mom always wore a beautiful jasmine scent. I literally can close my eyes and smell her from my memory.’
Can you describe the scent profile and key notes of the perfume?
I would describe it as a ‘deliciously sweet’ scent. It’s super warm and gourmand and even more delectable when layered with other fragrances. On initial spritz, you get a fruit mix of glazed candied pear and bubble gum that really enhance the candy-like sweetness. As it dries down, you should get more of a tempting explosion of rock sugar and vanilla cream complemented by warm and woody notes of tonka bean, sandalwood, and patchouli.
How does this fragrance differ from others in your line?
I’m a gourmand lover, so it just made sense for us to create a fragrance that smells like candy next, but Vanilla Candy Rock Sugar | 42 really is our sweetest scent yet! Although a few of our scents are warm gourmand scents, you will be surprised at how different they smell compared to the rest of the collection.
What kind of mood or occasion do you envision this perfume being perfect for?
It really is one of the happiest scents we’ve ever created, it will take you back to your childhood and happy times of your life. I wear it when I just want to have fun, it’s such a playful scent! It’s sugary, delightful and tempting.
Can you share any unique or interesting stories behind the development of this fragrance?
Gabriela Chelariu, who helped develop our most popular gems Vanilla | 28 and The Wedding Silk Santal | 36 actually helped us create Vanilla Candy Rock Sugar | 42 along with fellow dsm-Firmenich perfumer, Fabrice Pellegrin! We really wanted to create a younger and more youthful sister to Vanilla | 28, and it was amazing to have Gabriela and Fabrice working on this scent with us.
How do you anticipate this fragrance resonating with your existing customers?
I think anyone who loves our Vanilla | 28 and sweet scents will really love Vanilla Candy Rock Sugar | 42. We are known to take inspiration from sweet treats, for example our Yum Pistachio Gelato | 33 was inspired by my favorite dessert, which is pistachio gelato, Vanilla | 28 was inspired by birthday cake, but this is a huge throwback into my childhood – no matter what your favorite candy was! I immediately get transported into a different timeline full of bubble gums and jellybeans, Jolly Ranchers!
What makes this fragrance stand out in today’s crowded market?
I think the scent itself is quite unique but also the storytelling. It’s not easy trying to show people what a fragrance smells like through a screen. For Vanilla Candy, I really wanted to be a lot more playful and invite people into my sweet candy fantasy! Even the bottle has a beautiful iridescent finish to give the effect of a hard candy wrapper.
Are there any specific ingredients or sourcing methods that make this perfume special?
Yes! For the first time ever, we have included our own KAYALI signature accord into the fragrance which is a blend of Tonka, Praline, Vanilla and Musk. It’s a captive accord which can only be used for our KAYALI fragrances, and we hope that it’s a way for our KAYALI scents to stand out even more and have this signature notes in our scents.
