Kebbi Incoming LG Chairmen To Enjoy Tenure Elongation

Incoming local government chairmen and councilors in Kebbi state are to enjoy three year tenure instead of two as the state House of Assembly is set to pass the LG Amendment Bill, 2024 into law.

This came to light Wednesday at the opening of a public forum to collate suggestions from individuals and groups on the amendment law convened by the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, in Birnin Kebbi.

Chairman of the committee, Hon. Salihu Muhammad Dangoje,  stated that the amended law will receive quick passage for assent by the state chief executive, making it effective on chairmen and councilors to be elected at local government polls scheduled for 31st August, 2024.

“In his penchant for good governance and service delivery, Governor Nasir Idris decided to seek for an elongation for local government chairmen and councilors to enable them deliver the desired dividends of democracy at the grassroots,” Hon. Dangoje said.

Speaker of the assembly, Rt. Hon. Muhammad Usman Zuru, described local government as the closest tier to the people, which made it incumbent to ensure the laws guiding their operations reflect current realities.
