Taron Egerton offers a new update on the future of the Kingsman franchise that contradicts a 20th Century exec’s recent comments. The espionage action franchise is comprised of two main movies and a prequel, the latter being the most recent installment in 2021. The original film was a box office success, raking in over $414 million worldwide. The subsequent movies haven’t been able to match this, but additional spinoffs and a third film, tentatively titled Kingsman: The Blue Blood, have been announced to be in development. However, 20th Century’s president Steve Asbell said in October that there are “no plans on doing them anytime soon.”
However, Egerton has now provided some hope. In an interview with Screen Rant‘s Liam Crowley for his new Netflix movie Carry-On (out on December 13), Egerton was asked about the claim that there are no further plans for the Kingsman franchise. He carefully responded by indicating there is still the potential for more, saying:
I believe that was said by somebody from Fox, I think.
I think… I don’t know, and I don’t want to speak out of school, but I don’t think that necessarily means that we won’t do it. I think Matthew and I very much want to do one more. I want to do one more. And so while, you know, we don’t have a shoot date yet,
I think it could still happen.
There’s Still Hope For Kingsman
Director Matthew Vaughn shared his plans to make a third Kingsman movie shortly after the release of 2017’s The Golden Circle, which performed modestly at the box office but earned mixed reviews. As often happens with franchise movies, the proposed third film languished in development for years after, with the prequel The King’s Man taking precedence. Both Vaughn and Egerton have repeatedly stated their interest in returning for another installment, but Asbell’s comments in October seemed to put the nail in the coffin for Eggsy’s onscreen adventures.

Earlier this year, Vaughn confirmed the script for Kingsman 3 was actively being written, so Asbell’s perspective on the franchise came as an abrupt surprise. However, Egerton’s new comments show this isn’t over just yet. His interest in making another Kingsman, coupled with Vaughn’s own fairly recent progress on the script, offers a path forward for the franchise. Asbell’s statement that there are no immediate plans for more Kingsman could simply be rooted in the lack of a concrete script. If Vaughn finishes the story and reassembles his cast, 20th Century might be more willing to produce a final movie for Egerton’s Eggsy.

Eggsy Deserves A Proper Sendoff
As someone who adored Kingsman: The Secret Service and felt decidedly mixed about The Golden Circle, I would love to see one last big screen adventure for Eggsy and Harry Hart (Colin Firth, who is expected to return for the potential third movie). The Golden Circle hardly felt like a proper sendoff, and it could be exciting to see the two embark on another high-stakes mission. A third film could make up for the more lukewarm installments that followed the first and send the characters out on a high.
Furthermore, The King’s Man demonstrated this world has so much potential, and that lends itself very well to additional projects. 20th Century Studios’ lack of immediate plans for Kingsman makes the future murky, but Egerton’s hope that something will work out bodes well for the series overall. If he were to lose interest, the franchise would likely fall apart, but for now, fans should keep their hopes up.
