Kite Man: Hell Yeah! is a new animated DC Universe series featuring the titular character. Spun off from the hit Harley Quinn television series, the show is set to follow Kite Man and his girlfriend, Golden Glider, as they purchase and run a bar for supervillains. Matt Oberg will reprise the titular role from Harley Quinn, and the series will soon launch on Max. With raunchy humor and explicit violence, this adult animated series promises to continue Harley Quinn‘s legacy with vile humor and genuine heart.
Kite Man: Hell Yeah! is the final DC animated show in the franchise’s current state. With the launch of the new DC Universe, James Gunn and Peter Safran plan to tie all of the studio’s animation with live-action features and stories, beginning with Creature Commandos in December 2024. While series like Kite Man can be launched as part of the Elseworlds spinoff side of the DCU, it’s unclear how many shows and movies will be able to go down this path at one time, putting Kite Man: Hell Yeah! in a fascinating place in DC’s timeline as it predates what is to come.

Harley Quinn Spinoff Kite Man: Hell Yeah! Confirmed
In 2022, at the SXSW festival, Executive Producer Patrick Schumaker announced development of the first Harley Quinn spinoff with a series called Noonan’s. The series was confirmed to follow Kite Man as the lead character as he purchases and operates a seedy bar in Gotham City. Facing difficulties with operating costs, the villain must turn to his ventures in crime in order to fund the bar.
Executive produced by Justin Halpern, Patrick Schumacker, Dean Lorey, Sam Register, and Kaley Cuoco, the series has been in development through the change in leadership at DC studios. In 2022, it was confirmed that Dean Lorey and Katie Rich would serve as the showrunners on the series, with the other creatives serving only in their executive producer capacities. In this, the series hopes to differentiate itself from the flagship Harley Quinn series.
On September 14, 2023, alongside the final episode of Harley Quinn season 4, the first trailer for the series, now entitled Kite Man: Hell Yeah! was released. The trailer shows a great deal of overlap with the Harley Quinn series, including appearances by Harley, Poison Ivy, Queen of Fables and Darkseid. The series was recently confirmed for a July 2024 release on Max.

The studio has not revealed the full plan for the series’ release, but following Harley Quinn, it is likely that new episodes will follow weekly.

American actor Matt Oberg will be reprising his role as Kite Man. The actor has appeared in various series and films, but has become beloved for his dorky and loveable take on the Batman supervillain. Starring in series like The Comedians alongside Billy Crystal and Josh Gad, Oberg has built a decent resume and works well to elevate others onscreen. This ability to blend into an ensemble has elevated his role as Harley Quinn, and it will be interesting to see his character evolve as he takes on the lead here.
Now in a leading role, Kite Man’s girlfriend and the co-owner of Noonan’s has been recast for the series. Cathy Ang played Golden Glider in Harley Quinn, but Stephanie Hsu will voice the character here. Hsu previously appeared in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, but is best known for her role in Everything Everywhere All at Once, for which she received an Academy Award Nomination for Best Actress.
The series has been confirmed to feature Bane in a regular role. Comedian James Adomian will return from Harley Quinn as Bane, and the character is confirmed to be the third and final member of the main cast. Adomian is an accomplished voice actor who has appeared in many series, including Rick and Morty, Teen Titans Go!, Hamster and Gretel, Velma, and others.
Alongside Golden Glider, several roles have been recast for the series. While Darkseid was voiced by Michael Ironside on Harley Quinn, Keith David will provide his voice here. Wanda Sykes previously voiced Queen of Fables, and Janelle James will play the role here. Significantly, in one of the actor’s final roles, Lance Reddick will portray Lex Luthor, previously voiced by Giancarlo Esposito in Harley Quinn. Reddick passed away in March 2023.
Kite Man: Hell Yeah! Story Details
Kite Man previously appeared as a major character in Harley Quinn, where his romance with Poison Ivy ultimately led her to realize she wanted a relationship with Harley. Following this, Kite Man has been amicable and pursuing his own dreams. In this series, described by Patrick Schumacker as “Cheers for supervillains,” Kite Man has purchased a bar alongside his girlfriend Golden Glider.
Few story details have been confirmed beyond the initial premise, and the idea that Kite Man and Golden Glider will have to commit crimes in order to fund their bar. However, the series appears to feature a fair number of Harley Quinn character appearances and will follow in the wake of that series’ season 4. This suggests that appearances by the Bat family, including the resurrected Nightwing or the Gotham City Sirens, could figure into the plot.
The show’s trailer shows a version of Kite Man reckoning with himself and his past, reflecting on his origins. It appears likely that the series will delve deeper into the history of the beloved character, even as it sets up his future. Confirmed to feature characters like Darkseid, the series will follow the day-to-day operations of running a bar for members of the Legion of Doom, and ensuring its survival against all odds.
Kite Man: Hell Yeah Trailer
The first trailer for Kite Man: Hell Yeah! was released in September 2023. Violent, bloody, and foul, the trailer hints at the show’s direction and features an appearance by Darkseid urging preparations for “all out war“. Featuring Kite Man’s reflection on his past and a series of explosive action scenes, the new animated series will follow Harley Quinn‘s path and build a larger universe featuring all kinds of beloved DC characters.
With deep-cut references to DC Universe lore, and a genuine love for its material, Kite Man: Hell Yeah! will hopefully continue the legacy that Harley Quinn built while doing something new and exciting with the character. With so many characters crossing over from the original series, there is concern that Kite Man could be too close to just being the next season of Harley Quinn. Luckily, its unique plot and focus on the Kite Man character will likely allow it to stand out when Kite Man: Hell Yeah! is released on Max in July.
