Lee Mack was left stunned after the players of The 1% Club broke a record.
For the uninitiated, the ITV gameshow sees 100 contestants whittled down to a winner after a series of questions that require reason and logic.
The final round is meant to be so difficult that only 1% of the population are able to answer it (hence the name of the game) with a chance of winning £100,000.
While previous episodes have had viewers stumped in the final few rounds, it was the 50% question that broke a new record this week,
It read: ‘Which of these is the odd one out in this CONUNDRUM?’
The correct answer was amongst: ‘A. cord, B. norm, C. noon, and D. Moon.’
While it was only halfway through the game, the players found it so tricky that 39 of them chose to pass, which can only be done once each.
Only four people answered incorrectly, as Lee explained the correct answer was ‘D. Moon’ – the only word that couldn’t be formed from the letters in ‘conundrum’.
But despite catching just a handful out, most people didn’t actually know the answer.
Lee said: ‘Now here’s the interesting thing, you lot have just broken a record on The 1% Club, because four people went out, but it’s not four people that didn’t know it.’
’39 people used a pass,’ he went on, as groans from the players in the room could be heard.
‘I think that’s the only time ever in the history of this show more people used a pass than actually knew the answer.
‘I’m genuinely in shock.’
Viewers were just as stunned, with X user Gillian writing: ’39 used their pass on this one??? #The1PercentClub Christ!! #moon.’
Others thought the question was easier than those playing in the room, with Ann writing, ‘50% is easy peasy,’ while Ken echoed, ‘Too easy so far. Still in.’
The 1% Club airs Saturdays at 8.35pm on ITV1.
