Legendary 80s singer Jon Bon Jovi has hinted he indulged in the rockstar lifestyle after admitting he was ‘not always a saint’ during his marriage.

The Livin’ On A Prayer hitmaker, 62, has been married to his childhood sweetheart Dorothea Hurley for 35 years and they share four children.

When discussing the impact of his career on his relationship, Jon said: ‘I’m not saying that there weren’t 100 girls in my life. I’m Jon Bon Jovi. It was pretty good.’

However, while he said he ‘got away with murder’, Jon said he would ‘never jeopardise’ his home life.

The It’s My Life musician made the frank comments while speaking on the ABC special, Michael Strahan x Jon Bon Jovi: Halfway There.

Reflecting on Jon’s stratospheric success, host Michael, 52, remarked: ‘It had to be tough on a relationship. You’re young…’

‘That’s nonsense,’ Jon interjected. ‘I got away with murder.’

He continued: ‘I’m a rock and roll star. I’m not a saint. I’m not saying that there weren’t 100 girls in my life. I’m Jon Bon Jovi. It was pretty good.

‘But if you think I’m ever going to jeopardise my anything for believing the narcissist in me was real? What a stupid thing to do.

‘What kind of excesses does a man need that’s going to fuel that fire? It’s just not worth it.’

It comes after Jon spoke about the ‘wonderful clichés of rock stardom’ in an interview with The Independent.

Elaborating, he continued: ‘It’s about never lying about having been a saint, but not being a fool enough to [mess up] the home life, either.’

In 2020, Jon and Dorothea shared the secrets to their decades-long relationship and agreed ‘mutual respect’ was one of the main reasons for its longevity.

Jon explained to People: ‘Having grown up together and grown together. And we really like each other. We want to hang out.’

The singer admitted that Dorothea has been his ‘rock’ throughout his career as he told the publication: ‘We work hard at it, but we enjoy each other and we never fell for the trappings of what celebrity can do.

‘We’ve witnessed that happen over the years to people that were close to us and people that we knew from afar.

‘It’s just what I do, it’s not who I am. I write songs. I happen to be very good at performing them. That’s it.’

Jon also recently confessed he ‘wasn’t that impressed’ with megahit Livin’ On A Prayer when it was first written.

The single was the band’s first number one song on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart and has since been certified triple platinum for over three million digital downloads worldwide.

‘It wasn’t that I didn’t want to record it, but I wasn’t all that impressed on the day that we wrote it,’ he said.

‘It was the simple chord progression, the melodies and the lyrics [at first]. But the bass line came to life in the demo studio, when we took it back to the band and worked it up. That’s how it became what it is.’

Jon continued to People Magazine: ‘We knew what we wanted, we just didn’t have it, and so I was like, “Yeah, it’s good. Good day. Good day at the office,” and I was wrong. It’s one of the biggest songs in our catalogue.’

While fans are hoping Jon hits the road again, he revealed he’s not sure when he will tour again after undergoing major surgery.

The rocker – whose son is preparing to marry Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown – is being forced to take it easy after undergoing surgery nearly two years ago for an ‘atrophied’ vocal cord.

He has been able to create the band’s 18th studio album, Forever, he’s since admitted: ‘I don’t know about a tour.’

‘It is my desire to do a tour next year, but I’m just still recovering from a major surgery,’ he told Boston’s Mix 104.1.

‘I’m well on the road to recovery and was able to take my time and do a song a day when I made the record,’ he said, but declared his ‘need’ was to be able to perform for ‘two-and-a-half hours a night four nights a week for months on end.’
