Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola meet for what could be the very last time in their managerial careers this afternoon.

The two managerial titans will be on the touchline for the blockbuster Premier League clash between Liverpool and Manchester City in what may well be a defining final episode in a rivalry which has dominated English football in recent years.

Whilst Guardiola and Manchester City may have claimed more trophies in that timeframe, the head-to-head record in clashes between the two managers could scarcely be closer.

So, as Guardiola and Klopp prepare to do battle for potentially one final time on these shores, let’s take a look at the record between the two Premier League heavyweights in recent seasons and how the two bosses compare in their own personal managerial rivalry.

Liverpool vs Man City head-to-head record

Since Klopp and Guardiola were appointed by their respective clubs, Liverpool and Manchester City have played each other on 21 occasions.

Klopp leads the head-to-head record with eight wins to Guardiola’s seven, with six matches having finished honours even.

But only one of Guardiola’s seven triumphs have come at Anfield – a 4-1 win in the behind-closed-doors clash in February 2021.

This means that, since Guardiola took the reigns at Manchester City in 2016, the former Bayern Munich and Barcelona boss has failed to get the better of Klopp at Anfield when fans have been present.

Of the eight games to have taken place at the famous home of the Reds in all competitions, Klopp has triumphed in five of them with two finishing as a draw.
