Poundland is set to close one of their branches today after an argument with the landlord.

The budget retailer has been forced to shutter their Sutton Coldfield site in the West Midlands after failing to reach an agreement with the property owner.

The chain said: ‘We know how disappointing this will be.’

This makes one of a few branches which have had to shut due to the dwindling high street.

Poundland bosses announced the closure of their shop in Macclesfield in August as they could not secure a new lease agreement.

A store in Altrincham, greater Manchester, was shuttered in July, despite the retailer having taken the site on from Wilko following its collapse.

Poundland bought and rebranded 71 of the stores after the budget home store fell into administration last year.

Several have since been forced to close, including in Ellesmere Port in Galashiels and the Sailmakers Shopping Centre in Ipswich.

In total nine former Wilko stores have closed after Poundland tried to bring them back to life.

The budget brand is not the only store who have been forced to close locations.

Boots has confirmed they have shut 290 stores, while Welsh fashion retailer Peacocks has had to close down one of its branches in County Durham.

Major outdoor clothing brand Trespass announced this week their shop in Coventry will shut their doors.

The retailer, which has 300 branches in the UK, has not yet announced if jobs will be affected.

They employ 1,500 people but around a dozen of their locations have closed this year.
