Authorities believe a man who was found dead may have been ‘pushed over’ during a scrap in a beer garden two days prior.

The body of Paul Ainscough, 57, was discovered at a property on Hollinshead Street in Chorley, Lancashire on Monday.

Police are presently appealing for witnesses and information about an ‘incident’ believed to have taken place at The Stag, a pub in nearby Leyland, the previous Saturday.

A spokesperson for the force said in a statement: ‘At 4.09pm on Monday 24th June, our officers were called to an address in Hollinshead Street, Chorley, to a report of a sudden death.

‘Very sadly, Paul Ainscough, 57, was found deceased.

‘Our thoughts are very much with his family at this distressing time.’

They added: ‘As part of our enquiries into Mr Ainscough’s death, we want to speak to people who were at the Stag pub, Worden Lane, Leyland, last Saturday (22nd June) between around 4.30pm and 7.30pm.

‘We believe he was involved in an incident in the pub’s beer garden, and he might have been pushed over during it.

‘Mr Ainscough was believed to have been wearing a bucket hat at the time.’

The force added that a 32-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Grounds for the arrest were suspicion of assault, and the individual has since been released on bail.

However, the force added: ‘While we have made an arrest, our enquiries remain very much ongoing.

‘Specially trained officers are supporting the family and they have agreed to release a picture of Paul in the hope that this may assist people in remembering the events of last Saturday.’
