A man allegedly shot his uncle to death in a dispute over who owned two pet roosters.

Aaron Cervantes, 21, and a family member went to a home in Mission, Texas, to take roosters that he claimed were his, according to the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office.

‘Cervantes began to remove the roosters from the property when he was confronted by his uncle,’ stated the sheriff’s office on Facebook. ‘Cervantes and his uncle got into an argument over ownership of the roosters at which time Cervantes shot his uncle with a handgun.’

A GoFundMe page for Madrid’s funeral expenses states in Spanish that the ‘terrible tragedy’ leaves his entire family and friends with ‘a great pain’ and that his life was taken away ‘unjustly’.

The family ‘does not have the resources necessary at this time and never thought’ that it would be his last day, states the page.

As of Monday evening, the day of Madrid’s memorial service, more than $340 had been raised.

An investigation into the fight over the animals continues.

Anyone with information on the incident is urged to contact the sheriff’s office.
