CCTV footage shows the sickening moment a man allegedly wiped poo on the windows and door of a popular restaurant.
In the same night, he allegedly also wiped faeces on the buttons of a pedestrian crossing near Waitrose.
Police have arrested a man, 45, on suspicion of criminal damage over the grim allegations in Canterbury, Kent.
It comes after staff at Caribbean restaurant Saint Smokeys’ BBQ House noticed something was wrong when they arrived for work on April 10.
There were brown smears on the window, and the door lock was also jammed with poo so workers had trouble unlocking it.
Stevie Bradshaw, 36, who runs the restaurant with husband Luke and her father-in-law said: ‘We were really shocked, disgusted and confused as to why anybody would do that anywhere – let alone to us.
‘When our staff informed us when they first arrived, it was not nice.
‘They had to clean the windows and the guy deliberately smeared it into the lock so it meant unlocking the door was difficult because it was covered in poo. It was really upsetting.
‘It took them half of the morning to make sure they had disinfected and cleaned thoroughly.
‘They had to stop what they were doing in the shop to do that.’
When they checked CCTV footage, they were stunned to see a a man appearing to deliberately spread faeces across the business at around 1.30am.
Kent Live reported that the ‘street furniture’ affected was the buttons of pedestrian crossing machines on St George’s Place, where the ‘green man’ indicates when it is safe to cross.
A police spokesman said: ‘Officers investigating reported damage to a business and street furniture in St George’s Place, Canterbury in the early hours of Wednesday April 10 have arrested a 45-year-old man on suspicion of criminal damage.
‘He remains in custody while enquiries into the incident continue.’
