Manchester United will reportedly hold talks with Jadon Sancho over the next few weeks to decide whether he stays at Old Trafford or not.

Sancho has not played for United since August following a public falling out with Erik ten Hag which saw he exiled from first-team training.

The winger re-joined Borussia Dortmund on loan in January and looked back to his best in Germany, helping the side reach the Champions League final which they lost to Real Madrid last Saturday.

Many had presumed that the England international’s Red Devils career was over but given his resurgence in form and the uncertainty surrounding Ten Hag’s future, it has been suggested that this may no longer be the case.

Dortmund are keen on re-signing Sancho and he too is open to returning, but his high wages, said to be around £300,000-a-week, and market value will complicate any potential transfer.

The Bundesliga club only paid a third of his wages over the last six months and according to ESPN will only be able to offer United another loan deal for the player, with Sancho’s contract set to expire in 2026.

While a move is still the most likely outcome, the report also notes that there is a chance he could remain at Old Trafford even with Ten Hag looking increasingly likely to stay put after winning the FA Cup.

They say that United technical director Jason Wilcox and director of football negotiations Matt Hargreaves will discuss Sancho’s future with the 24-year-old and his representatives very soon.

Wilcox has been conducting an audit of Ten Hag over the past several months to determine whether the Dutchman fits into INEOS’ vision for the club, and what Sancho says might play a part in the outcome.

The talks will be held before pre-season training begins, with all players not at Euro 2024 or the Copa America expected to report back to the club at the start of next month, with their first friendly against Rosenborg in Norway on 15 July.

Previous reports have suggested that all but a few players in the squad, Sancho included, are up for sale this summer, with United braced to take a loss on the Three Lions star whom they paid £73million for back in 2021.

Following the UCL final defeat, Sancho posted a farewell message to Dortmund on Instagram where he was coy on whether he would be back again, saying: ‘What a crazy 6 months Borussia Dortmund.

‘We win together we lose together, these moments only make us stronger! I’m so grateful to be apart of such an amazing group of players!

‘I want to congratulate Real Madrid on winning the Champions League. We came up short on the night, but we should be super proud of ourselves. We are a family and these moments won’t break us! Thank you to everybody who came out to support us on such a special day!

‘Dortmund, I want to thank everyone involved at such an amazing club. I can’t thank you enough for welcoming me back the way you all have during these last 6 months.

‘Thank you to Edin Terzić, Sebastian Kehl and Hans-Joachim Watzke for believing in me and bringing me back.

‘Finally a special thank you to the BVB fans. Your support is amazing and I’m forever thankful for you all!’
