Lisandro Martinez and Marcus Rashford have returned to Manchester United training ahead of Sunday’s clash against Arsenal.
The Argentina international has endured an injury-hit second season at Old Trafford, limited to just nine starting appearances having not featured since March.
During his absence, United have been beset by injury problems at the back with Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire and Willy Kambwala all sidelined – wit Jonny Evans rushed back to fitness to join stand-in defender Casemiro at the back during Monday’s mauling at Crystal Palace.
United’s backline has missed Martinez’s leadership throughout a troubled 2023-24 campaign but ahead of the visit of Arsenal this weekend, he was pictured back training with his teammates on Wednesday.
Martinez’s last appearance came in the 1-1 draw against Brentford on 30 March, injured after that game having only just returned from a knee problem suffered earlier in the year.
He was joined back in training by Rashford, who has not featured since limping off in injury time in the FA Cup semi-final clash with Coventry City.
The England international has struggled for form all season but boasts a superb record against the Gunners, scoring four times in his last three appearances.
United were also without Bruno Fernandes for their heavy defeat at Selhurst Park earlier this week with the club captain seen wearing a protective cast on his wrist over the weekend.
Scott McTominay also missed out in southeast London.
United’s hopes of a top four finish are long gone with the club sat in eighth place having been leapfrogged by both Newcastle United and Chelsea.
Ten Hag’s side have three games of their league campaign remaining with Newcastle and Brighton awaiting before their FA Cup final showdown with Manchester City on 25 May.
United can still have a pivotal role to play in the Premier League title race, however.
A win over Mikel Arteta’s side would hand neighbours City an enormous boost, with Pep Guardiola’s side guaranteed to win the title if they win their remaining three games.
