Marvel Explained Why Scarlet Witch Couldn’t Find Billy After WandaVision… But What About Tommy?

Agatha All Along has explained why Wanda Maximoff was unable to locate her son Billy after the events of WandaVision, yet has proffered no comparable explanation for her other son. Billy’s twin brother Tommy likewise appeared in Marvel’s WandaVision, but has not returned to the MCU timeline. As both are expected to play a role in the MCU’s future as members of the Young Avengers, this mystery will need to be addressed by Marvel soon.

In Agatha All Along episode 6, the identity of Joe Locke’s character, Teen, was finally confirmed as Billy Caplan, also known as Billy Maximoff. The character was last seen as a child in WandaVision, alongside his brother Tommy. Both were conjured by Wanda’s magic, only to disappear when her hex collapsed. Their fates have been one of the biggest questions surrounding Wanda’s story arc. With Billy confirmed to have survived, many are now wondering when and how Tommy will make his return to the MCU.

Billy’s Sigil Meant Scarlet Witch Wouldn’t Have Been Able To Find Billy

The reason Wanda was unable to locate Billy after WandaVision was due to a sigil that had been placed on William Caplan, the host body for Billy’s reincarnated soul. According to Agatha All Along, Billy’s sigil was embedded before his spirit was transferred into William Caplan. This protective symbol rendered Billy hidden from Wanda’s magical senses the moment hex in Westview collapsed, and Billy Maximoff ceased to exist in that form.

This explains why Wanda, despite being one of the most powerful magic users in the multiverse, was unable to find her son Billy. The sigil effectively masked Billy’s presence, making it impossible for Wanda to track him, even as she scoured the multiverse during her rampage in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Billy was always right there, but hidden under a powerful spell. This revelation ties directly into the mystery surrounding Billy’s reincarnation and his role moving forward in the MCU, but it still leaves the question of Tommy’s fate unanswered.

WandaVision’s Post-Credits Confirmed Tommy Survived Too… But Where Is He?

In WandaVision’s post-credits scene, Wanda was seen hearing her sons, Billy and Tommy, calling out to her, seemingly from another universe or dimension. This moment set up her violent quest in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, as she searched for her children across realities. The fact that both boys were calling for their mother implied that Tommy, like Billy, also survived after the hex’s collapse. However, while Billy has reappeared in Agatha All Along, Tommy has yet to make his return to the MCU, leaving his fate a mystery.

Agatha All Along episode 6 was brimming with revelations that have destroyed four popular theories, including Teen’s motivations and Scarlet Witch.

If Tommy’s soul was also transferred into a new body, as Billy’s was, then it’s possible he too may have a sigil placed on him, which would explain why Wanda couldn’t find him either. This would mean that Tommy is hidden somewhere, possibly waiting for the right moment to re-emerge. This sets up a thrilling future narrative, which could reunite the brothers after Agatha All Along.
