As development on the sequel finally begins ramping up, Melissa Barrera shares an exciting update for Ready or Not 2. The original film, written by Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy and directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of Radio Silence, revolved around a bride whose family of in-laws hunt her on the wedding night as part of a Satanic ritual to maintain their wealth. After reports swirled of a follow-up in early 2024, it was confirmed in October 2024 that Ready or Not 2 was moving forward with the entire creative team, including star Samara Weaving, returning.
During a recent interview with ComicBook.com for her monster rom-com Your Monster, Barrera was asked about the possibility of reuniting with Radio Silence for Ready or Not 2 after their collaboration on Abigail. Though she noted she hasn’t had any official conversations with them about starring in the horror sequel, she does know “some” of what’s to come from the movie and expressed her excitement for the team to return after another director was initially considered for the movie. Check out what Barrera said below:
I have not. I’m so excited about that because, the last that I spoke with them about Ready or Not, they weren’t going to direct it. So I’m so happy that they’re back on board because, who better to do it than them? It’s a very exciting story. I know some about what the second movie is about and it’s really good.
Radio Silence May Be Seriously Considering A Crossover
In looking at the fact Barrera says she got her Ready or Not 2 insight the last time she spoke to Radio Silence, that seemingly points to this having been during Abigail‘s press cycle. The vampire horror-comedy was released in April, while reports that Escape Room‘s Adam Robitel was reported to be in talks to direct the sequel in March, which would line up with the typical timeline where studios and talent set up interviews and events to promote a new release a month prior.
Even still, the possibility of a crossover between Abigail and Ready or Not has swirled since the release of the former movie, particularly due to its Easter egg of a member of the Le Domas family from the latter movie being seen in the vampire movie’s mansion. Horror genre fans have also shared their hopes for Barrera and Weaving to team up after the latter served as Scream VI‘s opening kill, while the smaller, but modest, box office of Abigail has led others to hope for the former’s character to continue in the sequel.

One of the few hurdles that ultimately faces the possibility of properly crossing over Abigail and Ready or Not 2 is the different studios that hold the rights to each film. Though Radio Silence and Vinson Films produced both, Universal distributed the former while Fox Searchlight released the latter, likely requiring some intermingling of studios to include Barrera’s Joey in the upcoming sequel. That hasn’t stopped Abigail‘s Barrera from holding out hope to team with Weaving, though, sharing the following with Screen Rant in May:
Yeah, we’ve gotta get a movie with the both of us. I would love that. I met her while she was [filming Scream VI], but I wasn’t even on set when she was shooting, because that whole beginning was shot separately. And that was a week off that I got, so I went back to Mexico. But yeah, she’s incredible, she’s an amazing actor and a really good friend of mine. And Matt and Tyler’s, too, so it would be awesome.
Our Take On Barrera’s Potential Ready Or Not 2 Role
There Are Many Options Beyond Just A Crossover
Though the chances may not be super high for the crossover to come to be, it’s still not entirely out of the realm of possibility for Barrera to reprise her role as Joey from Abigail‘s cast in Ready or Not 2. A prime example of studio cooperation for a crossover was incidentally also that of Disney and Universal for M. Night Shyamalan’s Split, with the director convincing the former to allow him to use Bruce Willis’ Unbreakable character under the promise of them being involved in the development of a potential sequel, which proved true when Glass was made.

Ready Or Not 2 Needs Melissa Barrera To Pay Off The Exciting Horror Crossover Teased In Radio Silence’s Abigail Movie
Ready or Not 2 has been officially announced, and it can finally pay off a horror cinematic universe that was teased only a few months ago.
If Radio Silence can make a similar deal between the studios going into Ready or Not 2, Barrera’s Joey could return and fight alongside Weaving’s Grace for whatever new horror she faces. An alternative to that could even be that Grace starts the movie in prison after Ready or Not‘s ending, and Barrera is a fellow prisoner or a friend on the outside that helps her adjust to life after the Le Domas family. Either way, I just hope that Radio Silence and Barrera find the right idea for having her team up with Weaving in the sequel.
