Balaclava-clad thugs with iron bars broke into a driver’s car who was waiting at some traffic lights.

A video shows two masked men dressed in black battering the silver hatchbackon Bradford Road, in Dewsbury, at around 5.30pm on Sunday evening.

Horrified onlookers watched on as the attack blocked the busy road but it is believed no one was injured.

As the video starts, the front passenger side door is already open.

As the two men batter the car, a person can be seen raising their hands in the air in a surrender pose.

The metal iron bars are swung into the car by the two men before the lights then turn to green and the two men jump back into their own car.

Three other men in balaclavas then approach and get into the car.

They then stopped once more next to the silver hatchback before they speed off.

After the video was posted online, locals reacted, with Paul Smith writing: ‘I say it all the time it’s lawless city and only going to get worse if that’s even possible.’

Meanwhile Peter Jones posted: ‘It’s no surprise to me. There are people walking around in balaclavas on a daily basis and there’s nothing the police can do.’

And Jeanette Lind commented: ‘Is there enough investigating police to cover all the s**t that’s occurring these days?’

West Yorkshire Police said in a statement: ‘Police are appealing for witnesses after reports of public order offences and criminal damage to vehicles on Bradford Road, Dewsbury, yesterday which are believed to have taken place at around 5:30pm and resulted in two vehicles being damaged by a group of around five males.’

Police told people to call them on 101 if they have any information about the incident.

This is not the first time a group has smashed up a car after two men armed with baseball bats smashed up a car and a home in Herringthorpe, Rotherham, in October 2023.

CCTV footage showed the pair, whose faces were hidden by dark balaclavas, arriving outside the house as one of them was seen marching up before taking a swing at the property off camera.

Loud crashing sounds could be heard on the video, which was released by police probing the attack.

The second man then walked up to the car parked outside the house and swung the bat at it.

Both men, dressed in dark tracksuits, then strolled back to their vehicle and rode off.
