Celebrities including Piers Morgan and Jamie Oliver have expressed their horror and upset after a body was found in the search for missing TV doctor Michael Mosley.
Mosley was first reported to have gone missing on Wednesday June 5 while on holiday on the Greek island of Symi with his wife, Dr Clare Bailey.
His wife sounded the alarm when he didn’t return from a walk, which he had ventured on as temperatures in the region were reported to have reached 40 degrees Celsius.
On Sunday June 9, it was announced that a body had been found after a search was conducted by people including police officers, firefighters and the Greek Red Cross.
The body is yet to be formally identified, after the individual was discovered by a hospitality worker and British journalists near a fence that runs around a bar on the Agia Marina beach.
Following the discovery of the body, the Mayor of Symi, Eleftherios Papakalodoukas, outlined that Mosley might have fallen off a short 10-metre cliff.

- There were theories that Dr Mosley might have walked along a steep uphill concrete road from Pedi, which leads to ‘very dangerous’ rocky terrain.
- There were added fears to his safety as temperatures had been reaching 40 degrees Celsius on the island of Symi.
- The Mayor of Symi, Eleftherios Papakalodoukas, had outlined that it was believed to be ‘impossible’ that Dr Mosley would still be in the same area where he was last spotted, according to firefighters carrying out the search.
- He told BBC News: ‘It is a very small, controlled area, full of people. So if something happened to him there, we would have found him by now.’
- The Mayor added that it was likely that Dr Mosley might have ‘followed another path’ or fallen into the sea.
- The search for Dr Mosley has included members of the police force, firefighters, divers, a helicopter, a search dog and Greek Red Cross workers.
- On Sunday June 9, it was announced that a body had been found in the search for the doctor.
- It was reported that the body was found near a fence that runs around a bar on the Agia Marina beach, with a purple umbrella found nearby.

‘During our search, and as we were approaching a cave next to the Agia Marina beach, we were shooting along the coastline with cameras,’ he said.
‘We saw an object next to a fence on the beach and when we zoomed in we realised that it was Michael Mosley’s body. He had probably fallen from a short cliff of about 10m,’ he added, as reported by The Mirror.
While it has not been confirmed yet that the body is Mosley – who was a regular on TV and advocated for the 5:2 and Fast 800 diets – several high-profile figures have paid tribute to him in heartfelt posts on social media.
Spandau Ballet’s Martin Kemp wrote on X: ‘Michael Mosley, So sad, I have spent so many hours watching and loving his work!
‘I was praying for a different outcome! My love goes out to all his family.’
BBC correspondent Lyse Doucet shared: ‘Such sad news – for his loving family and dear friends and the many who lived better lives because of his wonderful work.’
Piers Morgan described the latest news as a ‘very sad development’, while doctor Adam Kay said: ‘Desperately sad news about Michael Mosley. My thoughts with his family – may his memory be a blessing.’
While it’s yet to be confirmed if Mosley is the body who has been found, some celebrities wished for him to ‘rest in peace’.
‘Rest in peace Michael Mosley…. Absolutely devastating news about the sad loss of fellow tv presenter Micheal Mosley today [sic],’ said TV chef Jamie Oliver.
‘What a wonderfully sweet, kind and gentle man he was. He did such a lot of good for public health with his TV shows and research. He was a curious investigator, producer and presenter and often changed the conversation around many public health issues for the better. He will be sadly missed….love and thoughts to Claire and all of his family 🙏🏼.’
Loose Women’s Kaye Adams also posted on Instagram: ‘So sad to hear the news about Dr Michael Moseley. We really have lost one of the good guys. I’ve interviewed him countless times over the years and he was always the same- kind, interesting, interested and warm.
‘Heartfelt condolences to his loved ones.’
Michael Mosley’s co-presenter on Trust Me, I’m A Doctor, Dr Saleyha Ahsan, described him as a ‘national treasure’ and a ‘hugely talented’ man.
‘Michael’s a national treasure and he’s so personable,’ Dr Ahsan told BBC News.
The doctor shared how Mosley made her feel at ‘ease’ while auditioning for the BBC series, while also praising his ‘passion for explaining science to a wider audience’, and ‘making it accessible to anyone and everyone, not just a niche scientific crowd, but to everyone’.
Australian TV host Marc Fennell also wrote on X: ‘Over the years I’d had the great pleasure of interviewing Michael Mosley a few times and I gotta tell you he was a truly generous, curious, warm-hearted man who cared as much about people themselves as the science that could help them. Very sad news.’
