Even Michelle Collins is struggling to understand Cindy Beale’s latest decision.
On EastEnders, Cindy has been playing with fire by kissing ex-husband George Knight (Colin Salmon)‘s estranged son Junior (Micah Balfour) while still married to Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt).
This comes after Cindy has been pursuing George after kissing him. When his partner Elaine Peacock (Harriet Thorpe) found out, she threw George out, and he has been trying to make it up to her ever since. When Ian found out about Cindy and George’s kiss, he went out of his way to forgive her.
Rather than putting all her efforts into making it up to Ian, she has been determined to reunite with George.
After telling George she still loves him, Cindy is firmly put in her place when her ex says he wants to be with Elaine, and that he doesn’t love her.
After the devastating revelation, Junior comforts Cindy with a passionate kiss, before pushing her down onto a table. We can guess what happened next…
Michelle has now reflected on Cindy’s decisions.
‘She’s become everything that we’re told as women not to be. She’s insecure, she’s overly emotional, she loves too much, she acts before she thinks about things, but I think that situation happened last night after she’d been rejected by George, and she’s going through a bad time with Ian,’ Michelle said while appearing on This Morning.
‘I don’t think she manipulated it, but I don’t think Junior did either. They’ve both kind of been rejected by George.’
Host Ben Shephard then asked if Michelle was blaming George for the romantic moment.
‘Well kind of,’ she responded after initial hestitation. ‘You know that thing about two lonely people being drawn together.’
However, Michelle quickly added: ‘I don’t understand her and I’m playing her. I have to get my head around: “Why does she do these things?”‘
Elsewhere in the interview, the 62-year-old actress admits she ‘can’t bear’ watching her scenes and made an exception to the rule ahead of appearing on the ITV daytime show.
She is in the minority with that viewpoint, as EastEnders fans love watching Cindy back on their screens since she rejoined the cast in 2023 after leaving in 1998.
‘It was a worry of mine when I went back, do people want Cindy? They do, they want bad Cindy, not good Cindy,’ Michelle stated.
Ian is also glad to have her back, despite her adulterous behavior.
‘Adam says that Cindy is Ian’s favourite wife. He loves everything about her,’ she shared.
‘We’ve grown up together on the show. There are some couples, where the man always takes the woman back and it’s like that with Ian.’
This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
