Mikel Arteta has suggested that Bukayo Saka and Takehiro Tomiyasu are both doubts for Arsenal’s crunch fixture against Manchester United on Sunday.
Mikel Arteta’s side currently sit top of the Premier table, but rivals Manchester City have played one game less and will claim a historic fourth successive title if they win their remaining three games.
With a superior goal difference, though, the Gunners can still win the league if City slip up but will likely need to win both of their remaining two games.
That task begins at Old Trafford on Sunday where Arsenal take on a United side reeling from their 4-0 loss against Crystal Palace earlier in the week.
However, the Gunners may be without two of their key players for the clash, with Tomiyasu missing training earlier in the week and Saka seen with heavy strapping on his leg.
When asked about the pair’s fitness at his pre-match press conference, Arteta said: ‘Yeah, a few doubts tomorrow we can resolve as we have another training session.’
Elsewhere, Jurrien Timber could be in line to return to the matchday squad as he continues to step up his recovery following a serious knee injury earlier in the season.
United, meanwhile, will be buoyed by the return of Bruno Fernandes and Scott McTominay who have both returned to training.
Erik ten Hag’s side, though, will be without Mason Mount after the Englishman suffered another injury setback.
Arsenal have just one win in their previous 16 encounters at Old Trafford, a 1-0 victory in 2020 courtesy of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s penalty.
Arteta, though, insisted that his side would not be looking at the past for inspiration and instead focusing on the talent and form present within the current squad.
‘It moves so fast and so many things happen daily that you don’t tend to remember what happened three years ago,’ he said. ‘It’s been an unbelievable journey and we’ve come far. There’s still a lot to come.’
