A mother was shot dead while trying to help her daughter move out of her ex-boyfriend’s home.
Ruth Sue Ann Robison, 45, and her husband Tony Ray Robinson, 52, both sustained gunshot wounds at a home in Des Moines, Iowa, around 5pm on Friday, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
Both Ruth and Tony were struck in the head while trying to get their 24-year-old daughter out of the home on the 200 block of NW 51st Place, stated the agency.
The daughter had just gone through a breakup with her boyfriend, Hamza Smajlovic, 24.
Smajlovic is accused of shooting his ex-girlfriend’s parents and firing shots at deputies who responded to the scene and discovered the couple wounded.
The parents were rushed to a nearby hospital, where Ruth was pronounced dead. Her husband was in critical condition as of Monday, according to cops.
Smajlovic was arrested the same day at the home where he resided, and charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder and intimidation with a dangerous weapon.
‘The defendant did knowingly, intentionally and willingly fire a live 9 mm round into an occupied residence at the victim, while in the commission of a murder and attempted murder of two other victims in the home at the time of the shooting,’ stated a criminal complaint obtained by Law&Crime.
Smajlovic’s ex-girlfriend was inside the home along with her parents as he allegedly shot them, cops said. She was not injured.
The ex-boyfriend is being held at Polk County Jail with a $750,000 cash bond, the Des Moines Register reported. He has been ordered to have no contact with his ex-girlfriend.
Her identity was not immediately disclosed.
Smajlovic’s preliminary court hearing has been set for November 12.
The shooting remains under investigation and happened about two-and-a-half months after a Florida mother was charged with ordering a Rottweiler to attack and kill her ex-boyfriend’s nine-year-old daughter.
