If you grew up in the 90s and early 00s, you’ll have known the joy of pick ‘n’ mix sweets. Getting to fill up a cup with as many gummy treats and sherbet Flying Saucers as you fancied.

These days you don’t see the sweet stalls that often, but Morrisons has just introduced a new spin on the classic offering — and it’s great news for chocolate lovers.

The supermarket is trialling a Cadbury Heroes Pick & Mix stand in 15 of its stores, where customers are able to fill up a cup with their favourite mini chocolates including Creme Egg Twisted, Wispa, Fudge, Dairy Milk Caramel, Twirl, Dinky Decker, and Crunchie.

Locations where you’ll find this new service include Croydon, Hillsborough, Stoke On Trent, and Hunslet.

A snap of one of the stands has been shared on Facebook in the group Food Finds UK Official showing that a 12oz cup of chocolates costs £4.

So far the Cadbury Heroes trial has been met with mixed reaction online, with some branding it a ‘brilliant’ idea and planning what they’d put in their cup, but others weren’t so sure about it.

In response to the Facebook post, Alan Moran replied: ‘That’s brilliant.’

Similarly, Erin Crossan said: ‘OMG yes please.’ While Peter McDonald joked: ‘Shut up and take my money.’

Zoe Young commented: ‘Go on then, I’ll have all the caramels plz.’ And Gary Harriman added: ‘I’d get a cup full of just Creme Egg ones.’

Several shoppers were also thrilled to see a 90s favourite in a new form, with Lewis Macleod wondering: ‘It is a new Woolworth pick & mix?’

However, others were concerned about the size of the cups and the cost.

Alice Wright wrote: ‘I saw this Cadbury Heroes stand in Morrisons today and it’s cheaper to buy a box of them. Instead of paying £4 for 8 different chocolates.’

Lois Gray thought: ‘Those tiny cups for £4.’ And James O’Brien pointed out: ‘12oz is 340g. A typical tub looks to be 600g for around the same price.’

While Danny Cartwright could see both sides of the argument, saying: ‘Nice idea cos you can leave out the ones you don’t like but at that price it’ll never catch on! It’s not like it’s at a cinema or theme park where you expect to pay a premium, it’s from a bloody supermarket where they already sell them a lot cheaper and it’s a total rip off.’

For those that are curious about the price difference, a 300g pack of Cadbury Heroes at Morrisons will currently set you back £3.50. They don’t have any larger tubs listed for sale online right now.

But it wasn’t just the price that caused a stir. Instead it was some of the wording on the stall itself, specifically to do with the Creme Egg Twisted chocolates.

James West shared a zoomed in picture of the branding, which advertised the chocolate as ‘Cream Egg’ instead of the correct spelling of ‘Creme’.

‘This is the worst part of it,’ he claimed. ‘It’s bad enough when other people write “cream”, let alone a branded offering!’

There were also a few who tried to explain why the Pick & Mix might cost more than people were expecting. One user suggested that the price was higher for the cups because of the ‘choice’ customers had in picking their own sweets.

Daniel Green said: ‘It’s called customisation and that costs money.’

Wendy Boreham agreed, explaining: ‘Bulk is always cheaper, once it gets down to individual preferences they charge more!’

Metro.co.uk has contacted Morrisons for comment.

It’s not known yet how long the Cadbury Heroes Pick & Mix trial will be running for in select Morrisons stores, so those that want to give it a go should move fast, to avoid missing out.
