Multiple Asus and MSI X870 and X870E have been listed at a French retailer PC21 starting from €315. Inside, we find well-known series like Carbon, Tomahawk, and Creator, covering different price tiers.
According to this listing, the upcoming AM5 boards for AMD Ryzen 7000, 8000, and 9000 processors climb as high as €734. To be specific, the store offers ten models priced as follows.
The cheapest model available is Asus Prime X870-P at €315.43, including the French 20% VAT. This board comes equipped with a 14+2+1 80A VRM design alongside Gen 5 PCIe/M.2 and a USB 40Gbps port. For RAM, you get support for up to 8,000MT/s DDR5, though that will depend on your CPU more than the motherboard. Lastly, you get a bunch of quality-of-life features such as the Q-Release for the PCIe slot, Q-Latch for the M.2 SSD, plus Q-LED, which helps you diagnose POST issues.
Around the middle of the pack, we find the MSI MPG X870E Carbon WiFi at €536.38. For this amount, you get a stronger 18+2+1 110A SPS power design – overkill even for the best of AM5 CPUs – alongside fast Wi-Fi 7 and 5GbE connectivity. As usual, you’ll find the mandatory Gen 5 PCIe and M.2, accompanied by MSI’s easy-remove features.
The most expensive of the bunch by far is the Asus ROG Crosshair X870E Hero at €734.67. If your wallet can handle it, your PC will be greeted by support for up to DDR5-8600, two USB 4 ports, two Gen 5 PCIe slots, and three Gen 5 M.2 slots. Not to forget enough power to run any Ryzen chip. As you can guess, you won’t be able to fill all these ports/slots while running at full speed due to the limited number of PCIe lanes coming out from the CPU. You will also find the new Wi-Fi 7 and fast 5GbE LAN alongside a heap of USB ports and a handy eight-segment debug display. Unfortunately for some reason, this board doesn’t feature the easy PCIe release button. However, that’s not a big deal for most users who rarely remove the card anyway.
X870 and X870E motherboards are expected to become available to purchase next week on September 30. This is the same day reviews should come out too, so keep an eye out for those. As for mid-range B850 and B840 models, they are yet to get a launch date. That said, a release around CES 2025 is likely.
