Patriot and MSI are joining their respective Viper Xtreme 5 and MPower series of products on a new super-fast DDR5 kit. This combination of design and speed will please many PC enthusiasts.
Dubbed Viper Xtreme 5 RGB DDR5 MPower, this RAM kit boasts one of the fastest clock speeds on this standard at 8,000MT/s. This should provide users with top-notch performance and, most importantly, via a single click thanks to XMP 3.0. Yep, unfortunately, these high RAM frequencies are still exclusive to Intel’s platforms, even though AMD has already updated its AGESA BIOS to support such speeds.
That said, if you don’t care about the one-click setting provided by AMD EXPO, you could try and manually configure these to run on your AM5 motherboard.
Speed aside, this series will be available in 32GB (2x16GB) and 48GB (2x24GB) kits that are rigorously hand-tested and screened for optimal overclocking potential, according to Patriot. Each module comes equipped with an aluminium heatsink following a similar design aesthetic to MSI’s MPower lineup. On top, we also find some RGB lights with a horn-shaped style that is quite nice, in my opinion. They remind me of Batman’s Batarangs. However, this comes at the expense of reduced CPU cooler compatibility due to the modules’ 0.6cm (L) x 13.5cm (W) x 4.4cm (H) dimensions.
Out of the box, these kits will operate at 5,600MT/s using 46-46-46-90 timings and 1.1V operating voltage, which you can improve to 8,000MT/s at 38-49-49-85 timings and 1.45V using XMP. If you plan to use these on a motherboard unable to withstand their speed, Patriot has also validated two other profiles offering 7,800MT/s at 38-48-48-84 and 7,600MT/s at 36-48-48-84. Other than that there isn’t much to say apart from the usual lifetime warranty offered with this tier of product.
