MSI has revealed two of its upcoming AM5 motherboards featuring AMD’s X870 chipset for Ryzen 9000 CPUs. The new lineup includes the latest wired and wireless connectivity options.
To begin with, MSI is planning at least two high-end X870 motherboards, MAG X870 Tomahawk WiFi and Pro X870-P WiFi. These should cover the mid-to-high-end segment as they don’t use an X870-E chipset. Nonetheless, they carry many high-end features, starting with upgraded wireless Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, USB 4 Type-C, and support for multiple full-size PCIe add-on cards.
To help you deal with the ever-increasing size of the best graphics cards, these boards leverage the brand’s EZ PCIe Release button, allowing you to remove your GPU even if the main PCIe lock is inaccessible. Let me tell you, I wish I had this on my board last time I cleaned my PC. For a second, I was going to give up on cleaning the card since I was unable to unlock it.
Additionally, MSI has also reinforced the primary slot to handle the weight associated with these massive coolers. Lastly, between these slots, you will find three M.2 connections for SSDs, one of which rocks Gen 5 speeds – potentially up to 14GB/s. Not to forget the EZ M.2 Clip II which allows the removal of M.2 heatsinks with a simple pull.
Note that these should also be compatible with existing Ryzen 7000 chips if you like the feature set yet don’t want to upgrade to a next-gen CPU. Moreover, MSI has plans for other MPG and MEG series boards to ensure a diverse range of options covering every need.
While current X670 and B650 boards – including E variants – should soon be updated to support AMD’s Ryzen 9000 CPUs, the faster Wi-Fi 7 connection is enticing, to say the least. It can and should come in handy in residential areas where regular 2.4GHz and 5GHz wireless waves may be cluttered thanks to its newer 6GHz band. Plus, they look nice too.
