MSI’s new BIOS update supports AMD Ryzen 9000 CPUs

MSI is getting its existing AM5 boards ready for the launch of AMD’s Zen 5 chips. At the same time, the brand has fixed bugs causing incompatibility with some GeForce GPUs while improving overclocking.

With AMD’s upcoming Ryzen 9000 series desktop processors just around the corner, motherboard makers have started scrambling to update their BIOSs to support them ahead of time. So, in order to be sure its motherboard owners can seamlessly upgrade to the best CPUs Ryzen has to offer, MSI is among the first to release the AGESA Combo PI-1.2.0.0 BIOS.

This update targets all AMD 600 series boards from MSI, including X670E, X670, B650, and A620 models. This is fantastic, as it means all boards – even low-end ones – will support a drop-in CPU upgrade. However, make sure your board can deliver enough power to your desired processor to avoid any issues. MSI should update its support list as soon as these CPUs launch.

MSI has also made a few changes to enhance and improve the performance and stability of AMD’s Ryzen 9000 chips. With this, you should have a smoother and more seamless experience if you choose to upgrade your chip.

Lastly, MSI has ironed out several issues regarding compatibility with Nvidia GeForce RTX 4000 series GPUs. These especially concern the RTX 4070 and RTX 4060 models, which previously suffered from instabilities. Not to forget the usual general bug fixes and optimisations to improve the system’s overall efficiency.

MSI recommends all 600 series owners update to the latest version to take advantage of these improvements. If you own an AMD 600 series chipset board and want to be ready for Ryzen 9000, you can check your motherboard’s page to download the latest compatible BIOS. Just make sure to save your settings before updating to avoid losing any prior tuning or overclocking.
