MTV has stunned fans with the news it’s reviving a ‘surreal’ 00s TV series, literally.
The channel has announced an air date and its celebrity cast for the return of Surreal Life: Villa of Secrets.
Alongside the reality star line-up, it teases: ‘8 Celebrities. 1 Villa. All Will Be Revealed.’
Grammy award-winning singer Macy Gray, actor and son of Tom Hanks’ Chet Hanks, Fifth Harmony singer Ally Brooke, and rapper OT Genasis have been revealed as the celebrities taking part in the Big Brother-style show.
They’ll be joined by Teen Wolf star Tyler Posey, Real Housewives’ Kim Zolciak, Olympic figure skater Johnny Weir, and model Josie Canseco.
The release for the series teases that the all-star guests will be ‘surprised with provocative missions that push their limits, uncover their pasts and lead them to divulge their deepest truth’.
And fans cannot wait.
When the news was originally rumoured a few months ago, before the release date had been confirmed, @suddenlyshrek wrote on Reddit: ‘Guys this is the first that I’ve that Surreal Life is coming back and I’m SO EXCITED. Kim is perfect for it.’
@evanmav was less convinced, writing: ‘They did a season that aired like a few months ago, but it was sooooo odd. The cast was actually interesting but the episodes were either super boring or like extremely odd and weird and dramatic. Still I’m def gonna watch this!’
‘I use to love this show! Glad it’s back and with a strong first season cast,’ @thedigested said.
‘This returned in 2022 and it was WILD,’ X user Steven added.
Other fans speculated which romances, if any, may occur during filming, after claims Kim, who recently divorced her husband of 11 years Kroy, was rumoured to have struck up a spark with Chet.
Sources told TMZ late last year that they ‘really hit things off’ and ‘caught feelings for each other during the 2 weeks of production’.
‘Sparks were flying,’ the outlet claimed.
The Surreal Life originally aired for six seasons between 2003 and 2006, on The WB before it moved to VH1.
It then returned in 2022 with a revival involving Dennis Rodman, August Alsina, CJ Perry, Frankie Muniz, Kim Coles, Manny MUA, Stormy Daniels and Tamar Braxton.
The Surreal Life returns with a new series airing on MTV on Tuesday, July 23 at 9pm ET/PT.
