When personal trainer Via discovered she was pregnant with a baby girl, she and her husband, Carson, quickly settled on a name.
Rather than go back and forth on the perfect moniker, Via immediately loved her husband’s suggestion of Nora.
‘He never said where he heard it, just that he thought it was a cool name,’ she explained on TikTok. ‘Every other name he had come up with had a movie reference or something dorky, so I was happy we found a normal name we both loved.’
But, fast forward 10 months after the birth of Nora, and the mum-of-one has gone viral after discovering the inspiration behind the name.
It turns out that her daughter is named after a Batman character.
‘We are at his family’s house for thanksgiving and we sit down to watch a show “they watch every year” lol,’ Via said. ‘It was an episode of Batman Animated Series from the 90s that my husband has loved since he was a kid.
‘The main villain is Mr. Freeze, and his beautiful sweet frozen wife… is Nora.’
Via can be seen relaxing on the sofa next to her husband and, just as the moment to TV villain says the world ‘my own beloved wife, Nora’, her eyes grow wide.
A voice on the video can then be heard saying: ‘Wow it sounds an awful lot like our daughter is named after a batman character.’
A family member takes baby Nora up to the TV screen so she can see the inspiration for her name, while Via asks her husband: ‘You named her after a dead batman character?’
Carson then explains that she’s not dead, just frozen.
The funny epiphany reached more than 28 million views on TikTok and, in hindsight, Via said she should’ve known better.
‘Literally my husband’s profile photo is Mr. Freeze on so many things, I should have known,’ she said. ‘I’m honestly impressed he kept this so close to his chest.
‘I love my daughter’s name, I love my dorky husband (who “accidentally” proposed on national batman day too, by the way), but all future baby names will have a thorough background check…’
Viewers found the clip hilarious, with one saying: ‘You can see that “aww” turn into “wait a damn minute” in that head turn.’
‘The way the whole family already knew Nora’s whole back story too,’ added another.
But Via wasn’t the only one to discover that her partner had named their baby after something unexpected.
@Kateeee wrote: ‘My partner named our daughter Emmie. Three years later I find out she’s named after Eminem.’
‘I told my husband I liked the name Piper for a girl,’ said @.heatherdoodle. ‘He agreed immediately, which was suspicious. I found out later that Piper is a plane company (my husband is a pilot).’
Men also confessed to their inspirations when naming their children.
TikTok user Ranerdar confessed: ‘I tried to name my son Bruce. Wife said no, it’s an old man’s name. Four years later we had our daughter…Harley.’
‘My son’s name is Logan. On a totally unrelated note, the 1990s X-men animated series was amazing,’ added @ejschaefer.
@Chris Rickett378 said: ‘Took my ex wife seven years before she realised I named out daughter after a Final Fantasy Character.’
‘One of my friends named his child Freya.. and I mentioned infront of his girlfriend “oh from God of war”… well her face just hit the floor when she realised it was a video game character,’ said @Tom Crawley.
