New Apple page disses some older iPhone models to get you to buy iPhone 15

First spotted by MacRumors, the new page is more comprehensive than comparison tools that already exist to help buyers compare different models in a product category.
At the moment, you can only see how the iPhone 15 series stacks up against the iPhone 11 and iPhone 12. That’s probably because the iPhone 14 and iPhone 13 are still fairly recent models in the sense that an average American buyer holds on to their phone for two and a half years, so owners of those phones are not expected to upgrade.

Greater differences exist between the iPhone 12 and iPhone 11 and Apple has gone to great lengths to highlight them on its new page. For instance, Apple notes that the “iPhone 15 captures up to 4x the resolution of iPhone 11” and its GPU is 60 percent faster.

The iPhone 15 also has a Dynamic Island and a USB-C port, which both the iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 lack. Apple’s latest models also come with features like the Action mode for steady videos and Cinematic mode that makes them one of the best camera phones of 2024.

Apple also notes that you can save anywhere between $180 and $630 when you trade in an iPhone 11 or later model.

With Google’s Pixel phones slowly gaining ground in the US and the Galaxy S24 series helping Samsung recover from the pandemic-induced years-long slump, Apple is probably panicking, though it’s currently the top vendor by sales. The company’s next lineup, the iPhone 16 series, is reportedly going to rely on AI features and iOS 18 as the main selling points.
