An upcoming Looney Tunes Blu-ray release will feature multiple animated shorts that have never before been released on DVD or Blu-ray. The iconic animated property remains beloved in the public eye, though recent years have seen some low points for the franchise. From Warner Bros. pulling certain projects off streaming to the studio scrapping the movie Coyote vs. Acme, there have been many reasons for fans to voice their frustrations. Nevertheless, Looney Tunes and its numerous characters still have plenty more to give.
On the Warner Classics Facebook page, the company announced that the Looney Tunes Collector’s Choice Vol. 4 will be released through the Warner Archive Collection, just like the previous three sets in the series. Vol. 4 will have classic cartoons starring characters like Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Sylvester, and Tweety. The Blu-ray is scheduled to be released on November 26. On the disc, the shorts will be presented in an aspect ratio of 16×9 1.37:1 with side mattes. The Blu-ray will feature 25 shorts ranging from the 1930s to the 1960s.
It will also feature two bonus shorts: Lighter Than Hare starring Bugs Bunny and Stork Naked starring Daffy Duck. Both of those shorts were previously released on DVD in the Looney Tunes Super Stars series. However, those DVDs had the cartoons cropped to a widescreen format. The Looney Tunes Collector’s Choice Vol. 4 will instead have both of those shorts in their proper aspect ratio.

What The Blu-Ray Release Means For Looney Tunes
Collectors Will Be Able To Add More Shorts To Their Collection
The Looney Tunes Collector’s Choice series is giving physical media collectors the chance to add more shorts to their collection. From 2003 to 2008, the primary DVD release of shorts was the Looney Tunes Golden Collection. Each set released about 60 shorts on DVD for the first time, and was full of bonus features.
After Warner Bros. stopped releasing the Golden Collection, the Looney Tunes home video releases included the Super Stars series and Platinum Collection series. However, in addition to new shorts, most of those releases also had shorts that were already released in the Golden Collections, forcing fans to have to buy them again. This can lessen excitement for purchasing new collections, as one could argue they aren’t actually new. The new release, though, offers a compelling hook that will stand out to longtime fans.

Another Way For Fans To Watch The Classic Cartoons
In addition to physical media collectors being able to grow their collection, the new Blu-ray release of the shorts gives viewers another way to watch the classic shorts starring some of the most popular cartoon characters of all time. Having the shorts available on physical media also reassures fans that they will be able to watch them whenever they want. In January 2023, more than 250 classic Looney Tunes shorts were removed from Max as part of the streaming service’s content purge.
Since having movies and TV shows removed from streaming services has become more of a regular occurrence, that makes owning a physical copy more important to collectors. Revisiting the classic Looney Tunes shorts will also be a way to get excited for Daffy Duck and Porky Pig’s return to the big screen in The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie, which is set to be released later this year.
