The internet is still convinced a Nintendo Switch 2 announcement is going to happen this month, as a port of a major third party open world game is also rumoured.
It’ll be November on Friday and it’s looking very much like predictions about the Switch 2 – the fan nickname for Nintendo’s next gen console – being unveiled this month have come to nothing.
A couple of weeks ago, leaker PH Brazil claimed a 2024 unveil is still happening and now he’s narrowed that down to either Monday or Tuesday this week, although that seems to be based more on supposition than inside knowledge.
Many other, lesser sources are also talking about a reveal this week but there’s still nothing even close to proof, other than Nintendo has an investors meeting on Tuesday, November 5 – which is often preceded by a big announcement.
Will the Nintendo Switch 2 be revealed this week?
The logical time to announce the Switch 2 would be in January or February, or otherwise a reveal could put people off from buying a Nintendo Switch this Christmas.
Although you could make the argument that anyone that’s waited almost eight years to buy a Switch is probably not that clued up on games news and would never notice a Switch 2 announcement anyway.
But while social media has been alight with rumours over the course of the weekend, other more trusted insiders have remained on the fence about the possibility.
‘There’s a lot of smoke, but I’m just living the ‘We’ll get it when we get it’ life,’ said Jeff Grubb on Twitter. Nate the Hate pointed out that while the ‘timing would make sense’ nobody was claiming to actually know for certain, one way or the other.
Nintendo has said they will unveil the new console before the end of March next year, but there’ll probably only be a few hours warning for whenever they choose to do so. It’s also perfectly possible that the initial reveal could just be a name, a blurred image, or something else similarly anticlimactic.
Is Elden Ring coming to Nintendo Switch 2?
While we’re on the subject, the other rumour that’s been going round this weekend is that a ‘Definitive Edition’ of Elden Ring will be released for the Switch in late 2025.
While there is at least a time limit for when the Switch 2 will be announced, there is no official indication of when it’s coming out; most rumours suggest late spring or autumn but there’s nothing to say it couldn’t be 2026.
The rumour about Elden Ring was first brought up by Nash Weedle, who claims that Metal Gear Delta developer Virtuos may be responsible and that it is essentially a straight port.
Since Elden Ring was released on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 a port to the Switch 2 should be possible, even if it’s just a modest power upgrade from the current Switch. Dark Souls: Remastered was also released for the original Switch and was also developed by Virtuous.
You can see that as either proof that the rumour has merit or the reason it was made up with the details it was. We’ll just have to wait and see what’s announced, but in terms of the hardware reveal talk, this is one rumour that won’t take long to disprove.
