Noctua has presented a heap of new coolers and prototypes covering many different markets. Be it desktop PCs, workstations, or datacenter grade solutions, Noctua has something to offer. It even has plans for a liquid cooling design.
Noctua NH-D15 G2
Opening with the star of the show, the follow-up to the highly acclaimed NH-D15 is appropriately called NH-D15 G2. This is a cooler that many have been waiting years for. On this new version, Noctua uses eight heatpipes instead of six, offset for better PCIe clearance. The brand also talks about 20% higher surface area with reduced fin pitch. When combined with the new fan design that touts improved P/Q performance and acoustics, this cooler managed a 3.2°C lower temperature under a 250W heat load than its predecessor, according to Noctua.
But that’s not all, as Noctua is taking this cooler to the next level by offering three different variants, each featuring a modified base plate structure:
- NH-D15 G2 (standard version, medium base convexity like other Noctua heatsinks)
- NH-D15 G2 LBC (Low Base Convexity)
- NH-D15 G2 HBC (High Base Convexity)
The idea is to have the best contact between the cooler and CPU to rely less on the thermal paste which isn’t as good at transferring heat. Additionally, AM5 owners will be able to use the brand’s SecuFirm2+ mounting system to relocate the cooler’s base plate right above the CPU cores. Those looking for something a bit more compact can wait for the release of a 120mm version around Q2 2025. This model is said to have all the new bells and whistles, allowing it to deliver performance on par with the NH-D15.
Noctua Thermosiphon
Noctua has also presented an AIO Thermosiphon liquid cooling solution, which uses natural heat convection. Developed in partnership with Calyos, this cooler resembles a regular AIO liquid cooler, yet it doesn’t include any pump or system to actively move the liquid around. This means less noise and more reliability. Noctua has plans for two sizes, 240mm and 360mm. However, don’t hold your breath as this one is still in the development stage.
For those unfamiliar, Thermosiphon is a method of passive heat exchange, based on natural heat convection, which circulates a fluid without requiring a mechanical pump. This gives it a huge advantage in the reliability department as no moving part is needed for its operation. While in the case of Noctua’s prototype, the brand uses fans to transfer heat from the radiator to the environment, nothing is stopping Noctua from having a fan-less version. Assuming the radiator is big enough to passively transfer heat or the heat load is low enough to be handled.
Even with fans, this solution is still technically more reliable for the simple reason that having two fans break at the same time is unlikely to happen. Plus, even in this case, you would still have some sort of cooling potential.
Noctua NF-A14x25 G2
For those who’d like to upgrade their existing cooler or system fans, Noctua has presented its NF-A14x25 G2 made from liquid-crystal polymer. The material supposedly offers higher rigidity, allowing the blades to come much closer to the fan frame, which should increase air pressure. In other words, it’s a good choice for coolers and radiators. These are expected to become available this month for the round frame model, while the square frame is scheduled for September and the chromax.black version for Q1 2025.
Seasonic Prime TX-1600 Noctua Edition power supply
If you like silence, Seasonic has you covered with its Prime TX-1600 Noctua Edition PSU, featuring an NF-A12x25 fan. Noctua claims between eight and 10dBA lower noise levels thanks to the upgraded fan. If it’s not enough, note that this PSU also features a 0dB mode where the fan stops under 50% load or 25°C.
Aside from the cooling, the power supply supports up to 1,600W, complies with the ATX 3.1 and PCIe 5.1 standards, and uses a 12V-2×6 connector for Nvidia’s best graphics cards. This Titanium certified PSU is scheduled for Q4 2024.
Nvidia GH200 cooler
Lastly, if you can afford a GH200 Grace Hopper super chip, Noctua has a cooling solution for you too. This beast of a cooler combines two large fin stack – for CPU and GPU – and three fans to cool up to 1,000W of heat output according to Noctua. You will be able to order one of these by the end of this year.
So, which one tickles your fancy? For me, that Thermosiphon eclipses the rest.
