The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has washed its hand off the plight of polytechnic graduates whose hope of being mobilised for the one-year mandatory national youth service has been a matter of contention.
JAMB Registrar, Prof Ishaq Oloyede, stated this on Friday while interacting with representatives of the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS), who brought their complains to the board with a view to get the board into addressing the matter.
Oloyede stated in clear terms that the board has no hand in whatever hurdle polytechnic graduates are passing through, as according to him, the mandate of the board does not involve the admission of students for HND programmes.
He said, “Our mandate is very clear. We admit students for National Diploma (ND) programmes, National Certificate of Education (NCE) programmes and Bachelor’s Degree programmes in universities. Whatever happens to Higher National Diploma programme is outside the mandate of JAMB.”
The student’s representatives appealed to Prof Oloyede to use his position to address their situation as thousands of them would be affected if the decision is continuously upheld without any solution.
