Despite her long run on The Office, Jenna Fischer has not received any word from the show’s creator, Greg Daniels. Built to replicate the 2001 British show, the American version of The Office first premiered in 2005 and starred Steve Carell (Michael Scott), John Krasinski (Jim), Rainn Wilson (Dwight), Jenna Fischer (Pam), and more. New cast members regularly joined, while many original cast members left the show before its conclusion in 2013. After the show achieved extreme streaming success, Daniels is currently in the process of developing a spin-off.

The Office‘s spin-off is already confirmed, and one important question concerns the cast. There are many beloved former cast members who could appear in the spin-off. In an interview with People, however, Fischer revealed that she will not be appearing on the show. She has not been approached and believes that she will not be in the cast at all. Check out her full quote below:

“No, I have not been approached. There is a spinoff in the works. Greg Daniels and Michael Koman are working on it. I don’t know a lot of details, but I’m not involved.
I haven’t been approached about it.

There are not many details publicly available regarding The Office‘s spin-off. Daniels has been putting together a writer’s room, and the show has already cast its first stars. Sabrina Impacciatore (The White Lotus) and Domhnall Gleeson (Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker) were the first to join the cast and more are sure to come. The show reportedly will follow a documentary crew shooting at another fictional and seemingly mundane location. That would allow for a more distinct setting, while introducing a new cast of characters.

The Office: Every Main Actor Who Left The Show Early (& Why)

The Office is known for having a talented and hilarious ensemble cast. But here’s every main actor who left the show early, and why they did so.

If Pam returns without Jim, it would be difficult to rectify her return with the ending that saw the two move to Austin, Texas. It has been over a decade since the show ended, and many of its actors have become well-known stars. Steve Carell (Michael) went on to star in Despicable Me, John Krasinski (Jim) starred in and directed The Quiet Place, and Mindy Kaling (Kelly) led a sitcom of her own in The Mindy Project. Many actors, including Krasinski, may not be able to schedule time to return, and only a few returning could prevent cohesion.

The Office
is available for streaming on Peacock.

The argument against including old cast members is that they could prevent growth. It would be difficult to help the show grow into its own distinct project with the old actors present. If it constantly refers to the previous take on the franchise, it could fail to establish its characters and make them appropriately endearing. Choosing not to return the entire cast could allow it to stand on its own. Should The Office‘s spin-off ever be approved for season 2, Daniels may deem it a better time to reunite with Jenna Fischer and the rest of the cast.
